I will probably be hunting unit 33 in Colorado in 07. Just wondering what caliber of deer I can expect to see? And does anybody have any pictures of deer they have taken off this unit?

4th Season should be pretty good along the west side of the White River Nat'l......migration out of the higher country is the ticket for 33......You can easily eat your buck tag during the 2nd season if your after a larger (or nothing) buck....It takes local knowledge to get a respectable public land buck (145-150+) out of 33 during the earlier seasons....consider a landowner trespass! The 2nd season buck tags have been pretty easy to draw out of 33 for a couple years now, and I see a good amount of bucks killed that are pretty small (just because they're a 4x4 on public land!!). I have seen (2) 175+ bucks on BLM in Unit 33.....but it's not an everyday occurance for sure!

I'll second crcountry's comments on 33. If you are serious about really big bucks, don't bother in that unit. If you want a 180-type deer, and have points, go for 4th season and pray for tons of snow. It is a huge unit with miles of thick timber, a very nasty escarpment of cliffs across much of the high country/low country tranitions area that is covered mostly with decadent aspen/oakbrush interface, lots of PJ below (long history of serious fire suppression there) and some tricky private land in very inconvenient places for hunter access. Don't doubt this unit could produce if they'd limit tags a bit and people could lay off killing every 2-year-old buck in sight, but the reality is it's a relatively easy draw, lots of tags and most everybody is just looking to fill a tag there.
