Boulder Deer Harassment

I was taking buck photos near Boulder on Friday and a helicopter flew by and was harassing every bunch of deer in a couple long swaths along the Front Range. I was wondering if anyone may know the contact to see if the CDOW was doing aerial surveys or there was someone out "joy-riding" and harassing the deer in the winter range? I wrote down the helicopter ID number. If anyone has any info or would like to email me I can be reached at:

I don't know, but a DWM should know of an goings on of that nature? Maybe just some Boulder yahoo? With my limited experience of Boulder, that seems completely possible!

I noticed you said on Bowsite that it was in fact ariel surveys. It's interesting that you mention the helicopter was scaring all the deer, consider them shoot planes fly lower and slower, yet some argued on the shoot plane post that they don't scare the animals. Figure that one out.

If you actually saw them chasing the deer I would not only contact the DOW but the FAA as well.

I few years back I had a Dentist from Oklahoma moving deer with his helicopter from my property to the land he was hunting. That was a very big mistake on his part. The FAA took the lead and he learned a very expensive lesson.

Most designated winter ranges are protected and harrassment of the wintering animals is not taken lightly.

I contacted the CDOW and found out they were doing aerial surveys in the area. They were hovering about 100 to 200 yards above the ground and most of the deer I saw bolted for the nearest trees. I was a bit upset at the time because I didn't know it was the DOW! The DOW had done some "culling" projects in the same area a few years ago and I also wasn't sure whether it was sharp-shooters out there massacring mature bucks. Hopefully the CDOW learned a little bit from that fruitless deal! SLOWLY but surely we are starting to see the mature bucks show back up!
