Hi Amy,

I don't know if you've seen or been following a thread here regarding a Monroe bull elk that was found by a gentlemen. He has posted the information regarding the find here:

http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCForumID12/13551.html

Would you mind contacting the Administrators at the DWR or the DNR department to see if someone, us or you, could contact last years Monroe LE elk archers to see if whom ever shot it might be found and the remains given to them.

It would be a great news story, with the Division's assistance and the sportman's efforts to find the hunter would be a wonderful success story for a of the parties involved. Even if the effort is unsuccessful, I believe it would make a very positive story, one we could all benefit from in the outdoor/hunting community.

Thanks for your help. As sportsmen with nothing to again but good will and good intentions, we certainly appreciate your support.

Nice thought but common sence usually never prevails in cases like this when a govt. agency is involved.

Thanks for the heads up, 2lumpy. I just forwarded this thread (and the one with Bill's original post) to our Southern Region Office. They will want to investigate and would have final jurisdiction over what happens to the bull. I think it's very admirable that Bill (and you) want to reunite the hunter and bull, but there are a number of possible scenarios in this situation, and as HalfAce pointed out, it's possible that the hunter went ahead and harvested another animal. I would encourage Bill, if he hasn't already, to also follow up with our office in Cedar City (435-865-6100).

hmmmmmmmm......"AKA"---the UT DWR will do whatever they want because they are god......

No Derek, they won't do what ever they want :(

In every instance of this type I've personally heard about the CO has gone to investigate, spent another $80 in fuel and a days time to sort out what might have happened, then if a hunter is found, the bull is handed over to them. If they can't find the hunter the person who found the dead head is given the bull.

If you call that doing what they like then they must like their job and I happen to believe these guys try pretty hard to make everyone happy. It seems to be a thankless miserable one at that because of people like you.

WOW way to take a totally negative spin and prove yourself to be an @$$.

+1 on the DWR doing the best they can. Those folks really do work hard, and most people who have a negative opinion of them have one because they tried to skirt the law in some way and been caught at it. In my opinion and experience they will do their best to treat you fairly if you are honest with them.

Repeat from the original post by Bill:

We can think of a scenarios that could keep Bill from finding the archer who shot the elk. We could each imagine a half dozen, "what ifs" that will keep the outcome from being ideal but how about we all think positive and see if there is some way to contact the folks that archery hunted the unit last year. We ask them about their hunt and if they hit and lost a bull. They can respond in a whole bunch of different ways. That's none of my business or my concern.

Bill found a bull with an arrow in it. Somebody shot it and "MAY BE" we can find that person. If he/she doesn't want it, they'll let us know, some way or another. If the person that shot it didn't take home an elk home and wants to identify this one as his/her, Wahoo! If we come up empty, so what, we tried and Bill did the honorable thing and we did the right thing by trying to help.

If all the negative stuff your concerned about happens, no skin off our nose, we did what we could. What the other guy does, he/she can live with.

I'm for taking the positive path. If you don't want to participate, that's okay too. To each his own.

Amy, thank you for responding and sending the request up the ladder to the proper authority. We'll wait to hear back from them our yourself.
