I like the idea of three season hunting if I choose!
and the guarantee of tags, and the draw after if I am unsuccessful! I have 5 points and will draw a LE buck tag
soon!
seems like an good time to do this! Its an high price and I can do the time and the RAC's! just want to know because it app time next month!
at $1032. not to bad for "for sure" hunting for next 4 years
(1 yrs LE hunt because of pts, and 3 yrs H/D program!)

RACKMASTER,

It's a great opportunity to spend time in field hunting.

I don't know any nonresidents that participate due to travel and getting the time off work to make it worth it.

When and if you draw your LE tag it counts as one of your years and one of your dedicated deer if you're successful. You may want to look at the program after you draw your LE tag.

From a dollar standpoint and if you're interested in killing a big deer I'd think you'd be better off spending the $$money$$ on a landowner tag somewhere. Granted you only get to hunt once, but a good landowner tag is going to give you a better chance at a trophy buck than 3 years of hunting the general season in Utah...

If you're just after hunting opportunity it's a great deal for the hunter.

Just finished my second year. If you get one or two people to do the same thing, the ride over seems quicker and fuel is shared.. Have met some great people and have since moved to Utah after retirement. The only drawback is the long trip for a RAC meeting as a requirement. Although very informative and useful, it is quite a burden on a non-res.

I'm going to jump into the DH program this year, '07.

Something ya might look into is that they have RAC meetings all year round...

Ya might be able to go to one during a hunt that you are over here on..........

Ya know come off the mountain, go to town, hotel it for the ngith and go to the RAC....

If I was looking at spending around $1000 to hunt the next 3 years I would think about Idaho. You can buy a general tag every year no problem, it lets you hunt most of the state, you have 4 weeks of archery hunting, 3 weeks of rifle hunting, and there are even some muzz areas (you do have to buy the archery and muzz stamps). If you haven't shot a muley by the end of Oct., you can head north and hunt whitetails. It does cost a touch more at $400 per year for the license and tag, but you will make up for that by not having to travel to do service projects or attend RAC meetings. Plus, you can shoot a deer every year if you choose. You can still put in for your UT draw hunt and just don't buy an Idaho tag the year you draw UT. The deer herds in Idaho?s general season areas are not amazing by any means, but I would say they are at least as good and probably better than the general season areas in Utah. Good luck on whatever you decide.
