Monroe Bull That llamaparker Found

Regarding the bull elk that llamaparker found on the Monroe, that an archer shot and lost last year (2010).

While we are waiting to see if we can get the names and contact information from the DWR, with Amy's help, lets be proactive ourselves.

quickdrawkinker has made a thoughtful suggestion, see below:
"quickdrawkinker
RE: 2010 Monroe elk recovered"
Seems like there were 22 archery tags given out last year and I had one of them--I was fortunate enough not to wound/lose a bull. Big Pig killed--I'm sure we can account for the other 20 tags if we all compare notes--somebody knows someone who had that tag last year."

So lets that we can do about identifying who had Monroe Archery LE bull elk tags last year (2010)

Lets start a list of anyone we know that had a tag. We already know six of the tag holds, so we only have 16 to go.

Here is who have already come forward to say they had a tag:

DUST-hit a bull and lost it.
EANKOBER-hit a bull and lost it.
nebo12000-knows a hunter that hit a bull and lost it.
quickdrawkinker-did not hit nor loose a bull.
Big Pig-according to quickdrawkinker, killed a bull which he took hpme.
Leftysbowman- here was a post that lefty made, anyone know lefty, to check to see if they may have lost a bull?
"We hunted hard for 17 days and didn't go a day without seeing a 6 point, some days were better than others. In the end the elk won, the wife passed a few and missed two but we had fun and hope someone draws the tag again someday so we can chase them around some more. It definatly was on last week, we were into elk morning and night. By Thurday afternoon the rifle boys were out in full force but we changed up the tactics a little and were still into elk. I know of two others who tagged out, one guy with a 300" or so 6x6 and the other gal with the tag shot a 5x5. Hope you have a great hunt (you should!) and am looking forward to seeing the outcome, wish I was going down with you, I am still in denial that it is all over!"

Also, lefty said he knows two guys that tagged out, if we could contact lefty maybe he could add a few more names to our list.

If you know of anyone else, lets add them to the list, and let them know how to contact llamaparker. No need to put real names up, first and last initial or anything is enough, just some kind of unique identifier. Once we hit 22 names, we'll know we've covered the field and Bill can proceed as he wishes.

Confirming... I killed a bull and recovered him.

Hope the rightful owner of the lost bull is found. I've seen threads like this end happily before.

I don't want to be a downer, But if I hit an animal and didn't find it I don't think I would want it back after it rotted on the mountain for a year and someone else found it. It's not like you are going to want to brag about it or show it off. To me it would have bad memories attached to it. Thats just me, but others may think differently.

elkantlers, apparently some would like the antlers, your right, some MAY not but unless the inquiry is made we can't know who MAY and who MAY not.

We're not trying to guess who would and who wouldn't. No need. Just putting the information out there and letting each decide for themselves. That way we don't need to worry about the MAYs or MIGHT BEs.

A few have inquired about bulls they hit and lost. We'd like anyone that hit and lost a bull that wants to try to retrieve it get that opportunity.

Make sense? Not trying to bark at you, just want everyone to know why we're giving it a good try.

In truth this is llamapackers deal, he found the elk and knows it's location. Some of us just jumped in to help spread the word and keep the effort alive as long as he want to.

I'm going to preface my remarks by saying I have used MM to help a friend recover a wounded archery deer on the Wasatch front. I think what llamapacker is doing is a really good idea. It really has a chance of working. It also brings up a few questions.

What happens if you contact all the archery hunters and learn that the bull you found belongs to someone who kept hunting and filled their tag on a different bull? In that situation would you be inclined to keep it for yourself since you found it? or would you let the guy have two elk to show for his tag? I wonder if the DWR would even be willing to let the person who originally shot it have it.

What happens if you reach out to all the hunters and start talking about what happened during their hunt and you learn they wounded and didn't recover more than one bull? At any point do you decide, you are just going to keep it?

Again, i guess those are roads you cross when you get to them. I think there is a good chance this one gets resolved. It's kind of a cool mystery.

If whoever shot and lost the bull wants it then I hope they get it. I also hope they didn't tag or wound another elk.

I'd Place money somebody like nv_hunter(Just an Example Abe!)shot that Bull, looked for him for 20 minutes & moved on to the next Bull!

(((This is an LE Unit, there are lots of Bulls to pick from,I'll just shoot another Bull,I'm exhausted,I spent 20 minutes looking for him,I've done all I can do,I'll just shoot another Bull!)))

Typical TARDology I'd bet?

Somebody knows Somethin!

For GAWDS Sakes Guys,We Got Kids on this Site,Some of them are 65 years Old!:D

I don't care if they're big or small!

I think we have another archer that we can cross off the list, here are his comments from another hunting forum llamapacker post his inquiry on:

SDHNTR ........ ....... Date: 06-Sep-11
Wasn't me. I only released one arrow. Didn't hear of any hit and lost bulls while I was there either.

I believe his initials are NT.

That leaves 15 to hear from.

Hey DC, Sorry for the delay, just got back from a week on the Wasatch on the old man's hunt...I know the wife didn't hit any (saw the shots and found the arrows), the guy who shot the 6x6 was a buddies uncle and I didn't hear of him losing one but I will check. The other gal my buddy saw as they where working on her bull, I am guessing she wasn't going into the holes that llama found the bull in. Hope we help someone out on this...

Thanks,

Mike (aka Leftysbowman)

?The bugle of the bull elk echo?s through the pines, the north wind moans her lonesome lullaby, he hungers for the freedom of an eagle as she flies?somewhere beyond the great divide?

Bess, You really need to remove the arrow from your anus. Every other post you are whining about stick flippers. Did your mother use an old recurve to beat you and thats why you hate it? did your dad miss your birthday back in the 1800's for some one-on-one arrow time with a deer of ill repute?

I also apologize that you think an archery hunter on a LE tag not hunting during the rut unlike rifle LE elk hunters, have the ability to find monster bull elk all over the place and big bulls every 20 minutes.

If there is a broad head up in your colon somewhere, just twist the arrow and you'll remove it from the broadhead and youcan pul it out. I know for you it will be hard to resist the urge, but DON'T smell it. just plack it on your wall as an accomplishment of being a crochity onld man.

I really do like all your posts but you don't hear anyone else whining every other post about other forms of hunting or other hunters.

Oh and if you are goig to say that I don't have to read your posts and I can just scroll past them then thas exactly what you should have done here!

just be bob CAT bess... not Bob...puzzie...Bess

It was a big bodied 2 point.

Buddy hit one last year. Part of his arrow broke. He was shooting an Epic broadhead. Let me know. He is in dental school out of state, but he can figure something out if it is the bull he shot.

After hitting the bull and not recovering it my friend punched his tag. He said it was one of the hardest choices to make, but felt that he had a great hit but couldn't find the bull

I'm finally back off the mountain and have answered PM's. So far no luck on finding the correct archer. Will post a hunt report soon. I'll let this run maybe another week, and then move on, posting all the details etc., but at that point will probably arrange to keep the bull myself.

"you don't hear anyone else whining every other post about other forms of hunting or other hunters."

I disagree, swdouc**master does this about rifle hunters all the time, but that's okay right?

That's me. Just a different name on another forum.

2Lumpy- There is another local (annabella) that had a tag- I believe he killed. His initials are JD N.- Not sure if you already counted him or not.

There were two archers with LE bull tags from Idaho last year, one with a permit from the sport show (me) and another drew the NR permit. I have contacted the other and will let llamapacker know what I hear. Check off two more.

luckyfinds-I believe I know JD N, I'll check with him and see what he say's. Thanks.

Thanks dcarcher72, that will take us to 13 left to check with and if JD N is who I think it is, we'll be down to 12.

DC

Spoke with JD N. He did have a Monroe LE archery tag last year. Kill a bull, did not wound one so it's not his. Said he only heard of one bull wounded and that hunter has already made contact with llamapacker so we are still looking for the hunter. According to my calculations, leaves 12 we haven't heard any thing from.
