Burping

Pardon my "ignance" all you hard core muley hunters...
I have heard of a burping technique some folks use when hunting Muleys. I did a search on this site and found one thread that explains it but the thread is so tongue in cheek I'm not sure if it the real deal or not.
So all kidding aside is this something I can use while fumbling my way along trying to bag a nice 4x4? If so, please enlighten me on how I can do it. Thanks guys.

I'm thinking you should have read the entire post by Sureshot. It does state in there somehwere how "funny" he is.

Sure does work! It really helps to get a buck to calm down if you spook him a bit. It makes them curious and they'll come right into you if you give them enough time. I didnt have any bucks come charging in like my buck from last year though.

I saw it on an old Shockey whitetail video years ago and I've been doing it ever since then. I used deer calls before that and the ones I used were always 'reed' based. Always had issues with them freezing up on me especially during that critical time when you needed it. Burping never freezes up on ya, and it is free. I pretty much burp from the end of Oct all the way through Dec. I combine it with raking a shed antler and have had unbelieveable success. It not only calms bucks down after you jump them, if they are pissed enough they will turn right around and challenge ya to a fight. It calms does down too. A lot of time when still hunting timber I encounter does that I don't want to bail the direction I am headed. By burping they calm down and let me walk past. In noisy crunchy conditions I'll burp alot. If you have ever heard a buck on the search for a hot doe, he's very noisy. By burping all the time as I still hunt, the deer just think I'm a buck on the prowl. Sometimes I have hellish heartburn by the end of the day, but normally the amount of close encounters with deer make it all worthwhile.

BC Boy that's funny a heck.
I appreciate that. I've only used
the Burping thing here in central Texas
and It's worked. If you can really Belch,
like after one of my mom's chicken fried steak
lunches, It's ON, big time. Seriously, I've burped
at bucks before while bowhunting, of course I was
very close, and had response. I can't really say I've
killed a buck by burp or belching him in, but i'm
going to continue to try. I'll do whatever the hell it
takes. I've personally never Farted one in, but that's
another post.
Good stuff

I think every guy I have ever hunted with has looked at me like I was crazy, but everyone now does it cause it really works. I like to be really aggressive with it, nice and loud. That way it scares off the smaller bucks that think they are going to get their asses whooped and it pisses off the big boys enough to have them turn around and come back with their ears laid back flat. I also feel that a raking antler needs to be big too. Those little sheds just don't draw the attention of the big boys. You start beating a big tree with a big antler and you bet the fight is on.

I don't think a buck burped in qualifies for the record books. I could be wrong though. I do know a lot of the famous guides have it down but don't state that they burp while hunting since people would start talking.

It works for whities as well! I have done it for years instead of a grunt tube. I hate hanging calls around my neck when bowhunting and burping helps eliminate that. I belched up a buck a few years ago that took his sweet time coming in. He kept grunting back to me but by the time he was almost close enough to shoot, I was about ready to puke. Luckily he wasnt a shooter. It also works on calming down does that are a little jumpy, if done softly.

It also works on blacktails, especially late in the season as the rut approaches. I first discovered it by accident. I was glassing one of my favorite brush patches and let out a belch. Almost immediatly a nice 3X3 came with head down lookin' for a fight, just like BCBoy says.
