2007 WYOMING HUNT

I have heard that Wyoming general deer hunt unit 151 and 152 near Hoback Junction can be good deer hunting. I have also heard that there might be a bear problem in these areas. Has anyone hunted or know of someone who has hunted this area?
Also, if I am reading the Wyoming nonresident game handbook right it looks as if you can pay an extra $200 and increase your odds of getting drawn to 80%? Any help would be appreciated.

good bucks are taken in that area, i believe there still are some good ones if you know where to look and how to hunt it. If youre a packer, there's better areas. . . That entire area of wyoming is OVERHUNTED and IMHO there's a lot of jerk hunters around there durring the season. Unless there's a massive hunter die off, I'll never hunt that unit again!

Hunted Elk around the Grayback Ridge up until three years ago. That's the southwest border for Deer 152. Grizzly sign up on the ridge, but never saw sign of any coming down off it while we were there. Wolves howling above Pickle Pass most nights. Haven't been in the neighbourhood since (refer to TFinal's previous post).

Thanks for the info. Overhunted, jerk hunters are what we have the most of in Wash. I thought it might be better somewhere else but apparently not. We really like to hunt the wide open sagebrush areas but are not sure where to go.

Thanks Rumproast (What a great name!!!) How did you do hunting elk? Did you quit the area because of the wolves?

In all fairness to the blasted animals HORSE, they did not influence us. All the guys blowin' through the timber like Jenna Jamison is camped right over the next ridge--hot, dry, dust-hangin'-in-the-valley weather --real slim results for even the groups that'd been in the area for 30+ years we talked with--all the 12-vehicle camps filled with clientele that are going in and out jabbering away like they've got cups of coffee, heading down the hall to the board meeting--that all had something to do with it. Even one of my high-yield tactics of using the guy dancin' the barrel-glare two-step to help me find Elk in that neighbourhood didn't yield. It was spooky, like the herd had been stirred and gone to ground before we got there--cuz some were in there, smelled them, walked in any the fresh droppings I could find.
All the areas our group knows closer to home with good hunting opportunity that are off nat'l. forest suddenly took on a new shine as 'vacation destinations', and I'm once again filling the big-game trifecta annually. That counts for a bunch.
I was praying for snow so hard during that fall my rosary bleads were hoppin' like mexican jumping beans.
I'm pretty sure we'll stick with area (garble) for a little while--maybe the circus will eventually leave town (NOT holding my breath).

You are reading to much into wytrucks.com

There are good bucks in there, no doubt, but few and far between. Do some scoutin and hunt those bucks opening day.

If they don't get ran out, if they do then hunt the timber.

Keep your expectations realistic.

Are you talking about the Great Divide Basin in unit 131? Is there public land to hunt there? What do you know of the area? Lot of questions but just curious. Thanks.

100 and 131 mainly from winter range drives and looking around. Some nice bucks make it through the hunt season

Tons of public ground. There seems to be more exploration for oil or natural gas of whatever they do out in the middle of nowhere.

I'm from Ellensburg, Wa. It's not that we don't have some good hunting here it just seems that there are too many hunters and not that many good bucks to shoot. We are not really starved for sight of wildlife either. I have been watching a small herd of 22-24 elk out my kitchen window every morning since August. I even have a video of a group of elk, 18 total with 13 of them being bulls. Only one of any size though, a 6 point scoring about 350. I would like to shoot a 30" buck and there are just not that many around here. So I joined MonsterMuleys to see if I could find a place to shoot the trophy I want.
