243 for Mule Deer?

May take daughter w/ me to NM for Mule Deer next season. She shoots a 243 with 100 gr. bullet. Works great on TX Whitetails. Do ya'll think it's good choice for muleys that may be 200 yd. shot? Or should I look at getting another gun for her.

My wife hunts Mule Deer in Washington with a .243 Remington shooting 100 gr. bullets and she has never had any problems. Last year she took a buck at 160 yards and he dropped in his tracks. She hasn't attempted any shots longer than that up to this point, but there is no question in my mind that she would be fine at 200 yards. She loves the gun and it works well for her because it is lightweight. I hope your daughter will get to go with you, because my wifes dad hunts with us and they have a great time together. With quality bullets its an excellent rifle out to 200 yards. My wife used hers to drop a 350BC caribou so yea it definitely will drop a mule deer. With 100grn nosler partitions out of it I've never recovered a single bullet, not even on the caribou, 100% clear pass-throughs.

Ive taken a ton of bucks with a 243

We load my sons .243 with the Hornady Light Mags using 100 grain bullets, that makes for a great 300 yd mule deer gun.

I've never used anything else onn a mule deer.

It will do, I watched my buddy slam a buck this year. He was dead before he hit the ground, didn't even twitch.

Great caliber! I like the 25/06 better, but own both!
Just be sure she practices until she can call your shots and she will do great!

No question the .243 will work on deer but if you're in the market for a deer rifle you can do better. .25-06 or .270 would be my choice if you don't want a magnum.

Yeah, The .243 is a great gun for deer i have taken 9 Bucks with mine and one out at 440 yards... worked like a charm! And i shoot 100 Grain Remignton Core Locks
