Here is a bull I took on the dutton with archery equipment. This is my first elk ever. Can't wait to go chase them again. I met a lot of great guys on that mountain. Hopefully I will see them up there again. Thanks also to a good friend Dr.Hunter for the equipment that made it easier to pack out this bull all by myself. It took me 3 trips and 5 1/2 hrs. I would do it all again. I called the bull into 30 yards. A well placed arrow made for an easy tracking job. I heard the bull fall and watched him pass within 40 yards of where I hit him. A hunt to remember. All in all I hunted 12 days. Thanks also to a loving wife who can run a house while I'm out hunting.

This bull got the last laugh as he died in a red ant pile. I could not move him more than a couple feet. I received red ant bites all over my hands and arms.

This is 5 hrs later. Sharp knives are a must. My dull knife cost me some time. I did make it out before another thunderstorm hit and got me soaked again like all my other days of hunting.

Atta boy, Reg! I wish I could have been there to see the end result of our efforts. C-ya in a couple of weeks.

quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.

Thanks guys. This mountain requires you to be in excellent shape (i.e mountain goat) or have some horses to have a chance at a good bull. I missed some opportunities at some great bulls, but thats hunting. I think I covered the east side of that unit from top to bottom.

Great first Bull, I bet it was a new experience with the ants, that had to suck.

Love it! Totally 100% DIY - all by yourself! GOOD ON YOU BUDDY!!!

Great bull - one to be proud of, hell I would even frame the pics of the ant bites.

Best elk story of the year IMHO.

HOOK 'EM!

What is funny about the ant bites is those bites just added to my total of bites for the year. A few months ago I had a wasp bite me multiple times while I was holding my 2 month old boy (i.e 4 boys now, lucky me). Half my arm was swollen and it seemed like I was on benadryl for a week and spraying topical benzacaine for that time. Then one week before the hunt I was out conditioning and I was biten by a bull dog. That required 7 stiches on my leg and a course of antibiotics that I was still taking during the first few days of the hunt. It still hasn't heald all the way 2 1/2 months later. Then the ant bites. My wife wonders what will be my next bite. Good thing I have some boots that protect me from snakes.

Congrat's on a nice bull, I just love that mountain....
