LAST EDITED ON Oct-16-11 AT 04:17PM (MST)[p]I wanted to share a picture of my 2011 Muzzleloader Bull. It was warm and tough the bulls were only talking until about 8 a.m. and then again after dark. On the third day I found some good sign and went back first thing in the morning. I started working a bull down low and had him coming to me. During the process I called a small rag horn in that came to close and I thought may scare the bull away. While I was working the bull in the bottom I heard one way off on the top of the mountain. after about 30 minutes working the bull it got light enough to see and he came into an opening, He looked like a decent 6 point. However the bull that was on top also heard him and must have seen him too. Within 5 minutes he came screaming off the ridge right by me (about 100 yards) and went clear to the bottom screaming and challenging the bull in the bottom. I got set up where I felt was best and gave him a couple cow calls. I could tell he turned right toward me and bugled again and he was on his way. As he crested at about 50 yards I couldn't pass on the shot and he looked really good on the skyline. I shot right at his neck thinking the 460 grain slug would drop him if I hit him there. When I shot through the smoke I saw him run off. I figured I had missed and started to reload. My hunting partner said he saw him go back up hill, I figured I must have missed this being the case, especially when I went to where I had shot and there was no blood. I cut across to where he had been seen and sure enough started finding blood. This is the first elk I have seen hit in the neck that went 800 yards up hill hit right in the throat. After 6 days scouting and 3 hunting, I felt good about this bull. He is by far the best bull I saw the entire time and the way I took him made it even more special. This hunt was unguided and on Public Land. Enjoy.

Congrats on a beautiful bull. He was probably able to absorb the shot being big bodied and thick of neck. He finally just bled out.
