LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-11 AT 11:32AM (MST)[p]An elk hunt is something I've wanted to do for several years, and finally made it work this year. Since I was hunting alone, I went with an outfitter.

This bull was taken on opening morning of the Colorado first rifle hunt, in the Gunnison National Forest, at over 12,000 feet of elevation.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-24-11 AT 10:32AM (MST)[p]Congrat's on a nice 1st bull.
It's always hard hunting alone. Gets even harder when you kill someth'n and you need to pack out the meat and horns alone.

Very nice bull. Especially for your 1st one. You better pray you don't get the elk disease I got. I hear bugles in my sleep, think about hunting the big stinkies every day and night all year long. Worse than any drug.

Congrats and don't listen to the guys being cautious about elk hunting, you are ALREADY addicted so just kiss all your extra money good-bye... it is now being saved for elk hunts all across the west ;-)
