here is a buck i shot in north idaho unit 1. i drew a special early season tag, it allowed me to hunt with a rifle from aug 31st to dec 1st for whitetails and mulies. i shot this buck sept.1st, i saw bigger bucks than this during scouting but i wanted one in velvet. i knew they were going to start stripping the velvet off any day so i shot this buck.we ended up packing him out at midnight.

hey guys thanx for the reply, that pistol was for bear protection we have alot of grizzlies up here. we have a few that have been know to key into a gun shot like a dinner bell. thats the last thing i wanted to encounter at the time! i shot the buck with a browning 270.

I did not think that part of Idaho had many mulies.
Are there many mule deer or is it predominatly whitetails.

Congrats on the velvet buck.

hey foxbow, there are certain areas up here that have some good mulie populations. this past season was a good year for big bucks a 212", a couple of 29-32" bucks and a few that went 190.
but it is mainly whitetails, when the snow gets about 18" deep it is nearly impossible to hunt the mulies when they move down into the timber! thats when everyone goes after whitey.

Great Muley for north Idaho, or ANYWHERE for that matter. I live here in N. ID and have not even seen a Mule Deer around my place although everyone says there's a few around. If I see one like that guy I will be truly blessed.

CONGRATS!!!!
