Looking for some info on the drop camp that Icicle outfitters offers, I am wanting to get into elk hunting this yr in WA state and know that it can be a bit more difficult hunting the general public land, if anyone has any info on this opperation or where or what they would do for elk in WA I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Icicle Outfitters aren't really in the best elk country, except for possibly the Mission unit. They're pretty well known on here for their deer hunts, but I can't say I've heard much, if anything, about elk hunts with them. The good thing about the GMU's north of highway 2, is that they are open for "any elk," while most of eastern Washington is "spike only." So I imagine if you could get packed into a good area that is known to hold elk, you could have a good hunt. But my guess is that it could be a really tough hunt in county that holds very few elk. The Mission unit has good numbers of elk but you'd be limited to shooting only a spike, which would also be the case most anywhere else. If you want to hunt for bulls, you might look into hunting on the west side of the state. The sportsman's show is this week in Puyallup. That would be a great opportunity to talk to some outfitters. Try to get there before the weekend if you can. Saturday and Sunday there's so many people there it's really difficult to get around in there.

where would you go? I dont want to be around a million people but dont mind hunting if you get what I mean

In Washington if the GMU is open to "any" elk, it is a good bet that there is very few elk in that GMU. IF the GMU has elk, and is on the East side, it will be spike only. WDFW knows how to make money.

There are only two types of people - The Hunters and the hunted,
I hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-21-07 AT 05:06PM (MST)[p]nwfisher, you really need to draw a special "any bull" permit first, before you can plan a hunt. You could hunt around Mt Adams or Mt St Helens, without drawing a special permit, but I'm just not sure if there are any outfitters that hunt those areas. You might consider checking into going to Idaho. Much better opportunities there.
