I was trying some diff things, what do you think of the rock Idea you can't really see the detail but you get the idea. I also altered the form and gave him an aggresive turn. and yes those are repo horns :)

I like the look of the rock and love the agressive turn.
Great looking mount...repos or not...
Super Job!!

Ok, I am gving you MY opinion. I think the mount looks super. The rock, I do not like. It just does not look right to me to have a deer head sticking out of a rock. The work looks real good, it is just the application?

Again, nice taxi work. The buck is pretty damn nice also!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-07 AT 09:22PM (MST)[p]That there is some of the best taxidermy I've seen on this site!

Sheeeesh,Does everybody have a set of those repo's
Looks ok,but look at reference on rocks like you would for deer.
I've done several wall peds with rocks.

I would not use the rock with that mount simply because I dont feel like it goes with the area the buck was killed. Great taxidermy though

I love the rocks. However, I don't like the head coming right out of them, I perfer the head mounted to the side more looking around the rocks. It looks more natural to me, just my honest opinion. Great job on the mount.

when I mounted the deer I was looking for something a little different then just the normal shoulder mount, I decided
just to throw something behind the deer. Thanks for all the opinions, I'm still not sure if I like it myself he kind of looks like he's coming out of a cave to me Kilowatt I'm Located In Sacramento, Calif

Wow. Great job. i love it. The rock is ok... but makes it look better with the sticks on the side of it. Awesome Mount!

WOW!! I love it. That is some superb taxidermy work. I absolutely love the agressive turn. I like the rock, but I would still like it without it.

I think you have helped me decide what to do when I finally get a buck worth mounting!

I enjoyed the whole thing!! The presentation of the mount is very nice! I would rather see it come out of the rock than simply coming out of wall.

huntsonora.....your reasoning for things sometimes just doesn't make sense. So if it was shot down in the desert would it look better coming out of a cactus?

I think is cool. Something different. Great taxi work on the buck as well.

How does it not make sense? Would you mount a quail sitting on the water like a duck? Would you mount a duck with a bobcat in a desert scene? I would hope you would answer "no" to both questions. IMHO the rock is out of place, its a really simple, honest observation.

now now guys all I had was some mache and brown stain laying around and a couple of branches from my tree, no sage bushes around here LOL! but that gives me an Idea, thanks again for all your opinions.

The mount looks fantastic, I would use it on a floor pedastal with some native vegetation and it would really stand out.

Don't like the rock - the pose is OK. Not a fan of repo antlers.
Great job on the cape and the work is excellent. Great artistry.

That's the "Sonora Buck".
I have a buck I shot mounted with a severe right turn.
It has to be mounted on the wall way far to the right

That is a very nice shoulder mount.
The only drawback is that it limis where you can hang it in your house.
That one you did could only be hung from the center to the left hand side of the wall.
Very nice work, but I like having more options as to where I can hang it.

I like it !! Taxidermy is artwork and while I would tend to agree with most that I prefer natural settings . I also can enjoy abit of abstact artistic flair. The main focus still goes to the head and the rest of the display is well balanced . You did Great Man !!

Hey Jim - it's been a long time. where did you get that monster? Tried to send you an email, didn't work. Let's catch up. Send me a note if you can. [email protected]
I finally got me a wall hanger. Haven't heard from you since that big boy you got near Encampment. Hope the family is fine. Look forward to hearing from you. Dave
