pm me if you have hunted jacobs creek for cow elk hunt dates are jan 1st and 2nd my grandpa has a tag just wondering if anyone could give us a heads up on what to expect. Thanks

They dont want the elk killed, if they did they would of put the dates earlier. Last year there was 4 feet of snow and you were wasting your time if you didnt have a snowmobile. I think I was the only one to show up. My freezer was full so no biggy but if it was empty I would of been pissed.

No he wont move the dates lame to have it this late and on new years day. Its my grandpa with the tag ill be missing out my news years day with the wife and first born kid and family at the cabin.

Hey Tye--

Just one question 3 part question, mostly just a simple yes/no question.

Did you (or your grandpa in this case) by chance happen to call the operator before you applied to find out ANY info about the CWMU and the cow elk hunts? How many, when they hunt, how they hunt them, how and when the hunt dates would be determined? Or did you just apply and assume?

Thanks

Todd

here comes another life lesson from blanding boy.... remember it is all about the money to him and all his CWMU buddies

I have hunted other cwmus and they were flexable with the dates. Chasing elk on snowmobiles is the best thing to do on herds at the start of winter what a joke. Jacobs creek wants the money and for us not to kill an elk. Thought the cwmu program was to treat state hunters and clients the same and work with dates Not lets do it on a holiday and chase the elk and deer on snowmobiles wonder why our animals are going down hill with the state letting this happen. The elk probably are already off the unit into there winter ground. I had a different cwmu tag two years ago and they were so nice and treated us like we paid big bucks. I emailed the DWR

Just one off the cwmu website
Code of Ethics:

*****To promote fair chase, proper care of harvested animals, and humane treatment of wildlife.

So lets chase them down on snowmobiles thats fair chase and humane treatment when there in 3 feet of snow

My questions still stand. Are you going to attempt to answer them or just whine and complain and make slanderous false statements?

IP address for SanJuanKid (last post) 71.37.105.188 (disables his profile and makes a profound post)

Hows that for a life lesson?

I have no dog in this fight, nor do I want one.

But can you dummy this down for me on the IP address.
With two differant #'s does this mean they are one in the same?

As you can tell I'm not the brightest star in the planet.

My bad, I copied the wrong one (IP address) into my initial post when I was checking it. Its fixed now and you can click on the computer icon on the profile to confirm. I'm not a computer geek or a bright start either but I've been told by a geek that is is that is most likely (unless your a computer geek) from the same computer and I would guess the same person but I could be wrong amazingly enough it has happened before:)

Odds are 50 50 that same ip = same person.

Odds are 90 10 that this cwmu does not want the public to harvest elk. It does not matter if they called in advance or not.

So you call and they say...the dates suck, so you don't put in. You don't call, put in and the dates suck....guess what in either scenario, no elk killed.

Blanding_Boy
((((((So i guess your ok with elk getting chased around on snowmobiles sweet.)))))) That is not fair chase if you ask me elk and deer trying to make it through the winter has people chasing them around. I emailed the dwr enough said. The video that was on the cwmu site was talking about units should work with people on there dates they start sept 1st -jan 31st why start jan 1st and on the back side of the front im thinking they want your money and no animals killed. Why not just have the hunt on christmas would really get people to not show up to hunt.i called before plus they had good stats and happy hunters for the deer and bulls so i thought it would be a fun hunt. And that san juan guy was not on my computer unless he broke in and logged on. Its ok ill just miss my kids first new years

thank you its wrong they can do this get all the perks and keep there animals

Tye--if you have first hand knowledge (dates, times, pictures, video other witnesses) that elk are getting chased around on snowmobiles on the Jacob's Creek CWMU you should take action and call the UDWR period end of story. Its breaking the law. If you do not, you need to understand the words 'slander' and 'defamation' and how Utah's laws are set up to deal with these types of things. You are making some serious accusations.

My guess is since you have not taken the time to answer my questions is that you or your grandpa never took the time to call the operator BEFORE applying for this cow hunt. As such, everything else you are on here complaining about about is 100% on you (your grandpa) for not finding out any and all info about the CWMU cow hunt BEFORE you/he (or in this case your grandpa) applied. There are thousands of cow elk permits given out annually why did he/you pick this one?

You say you emailed the UDWR--what did you provide for proof in your email of the accusations you are making on here? What did you email them? If it was the same one you sent to me all you did was complain about the hunt dates. Complain that you would not be able to spend new years day with your wife and kid. I have it if you would like me to post it I can.

Everything you are saying on here is completely false other than the dates YOUR grandpa was given that he could hunt. The dates clearly fall within the season dates the UDWR sets, there are several public land units that have dates set by the UDWR this late as well and many others that are earlier that he/you could have applied for. What was he expecting?

What money is the CWMU charging you/your grandpa to allow you to hunt their ground? Did they send you an invoice, you keep bringing money up here please tell me.

Here's another life lesson (no. 2). If you want to gripe, moan, and complain about something you ought to at least educate yourself a bit before you start spewing things you have no clue about all it all it does is speak to your ignorance on the subject.

Life lesson no. 3. If hunting is already taking precedence over your family life, my guess is you won't have one for long. Its a cow hunt and your not the one that even has the tag. Stay home with your family, drink lots of beers, watch football games, be merry, enjoy the break. If this hunting thing is causing you this much stress already at such a young age, you ought to consider another hobby. IMO of course.

My family comes first buddy. You never know how much time grandparents have my dad died when i was young so dont sit back and tell me about family time. Do i need first hand knowledge (dates, times, pictures, video other witnesses of people driving snowmobiles around looking for animals to kill on a little unit.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-14-11 AT 10:55PM (MST)[p]You're the one complaining about your family time and hunting and the conflict burning inside of you. I'm just saying stick with your wife and kids your family over hunting.

Your direct quote with regards to snowmobiles and elk is "elk getting chased around on snowmobiles".

My answer to your question (see how this goes) is YES, if you have proof (dates, times, description of the individuals, the snowmobiles they were using, video, pictures, other witnesses, etc) of this turn it in to UDWR law enforcement. This is what they will need to make a case. If you don't its hearsay buddy sorry, look it up if you don't know what it means.

Well back to the topic of this thread.

I had this tag last year. I hunted in January. I actually got a call from them asking me if I would be willing to come up and shoot a wounded cow that another "Public" hunter had shot. They had watched the whole thing. Shot at the herd, wounding one, then unable to get it before it hit the trees, blew another one over.

And yes, I was able to go up there. Took my little girl on a snowmobile all of 400 yards up a road. (They provided the snowmobile) Cut the track and blood, and 30 min later we jumped her. One shot and a pack out later we had our cow.

Great experience. I had been up looking from the road and saw tons of elk within walking distance. Did not need a snowmobile if I was willing to walk. As of right now there is no snow there. Tons of ground to walk around on.

They treated me great. Did I want to shoot a wounded elk, no, but since someone else screwed up and they wanted an animal not to go to waste they put forth the effort to ask me. They didn't have to help me out.

Great day with my little girl!

Hit in the right hind quarter, breaking her femur up high. Bleeding quite a bit. Sad they didn't even go look. Was easy to follow the trail.

I put in for this hunt again and did not draw the tag. I would take it if I could.

Thats why i started this thread is to get a feel for it would love to see my grandpa kill one. The guy i talked to told me they have it on new years day and that late so people would'nt hunt it or be able to find elk but i think that guy has something against them or something. So he went from being a complete ass that was ruining your holiday, making you miss your kids first new years, and forcing you to have an unsportsman-like hunt for Elk in 3' of snow on snowmobiles, to a great guy in just one call?

One of the people in that conversation must be certifiable, and I don't think it was the CWMU operator......

BIGOLMULEY aren't you a guide for Justin Richins? Maybe I'm mistaken.

I know Justin and may not always see, eye to eye. But I can promise you this. He will help you anyway he can to kill an elk. In my opinion the Jan date is probably going to help you. Jacobs Creek is a thick, thick unit. The cold and snow will probably get the Elk in a lower, more huntalbe area.

I am, but still got just a couple of days. They were later in the month some, but when they called about the wounded one, I took it.

FYI, was up there visiting my folks in Morgan and saw a herd just off Morgan Valley Drive, maybe half mile from the road, on the CWMU. No snow.

Jason "The Big Ol' Muley"

Sorry to be blunt but Jacobs Creek is set up so nice that I cant imagine you not getting a cow in there. I run dogs in there with some friends and the place is set up really well. In the morning be up early enough to catch the elk coming off the farmers hay fields and you will get a elk. There isnt hrdly a place that you cant walk 300 yards and access a 4 wheeler trail.

I have not read all the posts in this thread and I dont have time. If you actually hunt the unit and give effort you will kill a cow. lots of drama in this thread over a cow elk

FYI, it is possible for them to have the same IP address and not have logged in through the same computer. Most people do not have a static IP address assigned to them. The telephone company or Internet Service Provider purchases a bank of IP addresses and then pools them for their users. It is the difference between Public and Private IP addresses. Without getting into too much depth it is a very common practice and you probably see it every day at your workplace. Every computer at your office likely gets tagged with the same IP address as that is the address of your .com translation. At much larger corporations they purchase a pool of addresses, but it is still limited to as little as 3 or so. Just thought you might want a little lesson yourself.

Given that the times of the posts were greater than 2 hours apart I would suspect that this is the case. Although they could actually work together, it is most likely they live in the same town. In this case the IP address listed comes back as belonging to QWEST and registered in Tooele, Utah. Just type it into google and click through a few links and you'll find it.
