Oregon's Trout Creek Mts

Just want to hear of anyone that has hunted deer in the Trout Creeks. Plan on taking my 10 preference points and hunting deer down there this year. Any helpful information on what that area holds for deer now compared to years past. Should be a fun adventure in a new area to hunt, since I lost my hunting area in South Central Oregon due to a hunting lease buyout. I guess in this case money talks and friends walk!

I hunted it in 2000 and took a 27" buck with double 9" drop tines and my partner hunted the whole season shooting a 3 point the last day. there are a few ( very few ) hogs in there but don't expect to see many deer or many big bucks. I hunt chuckar there in NOV. and DEC. quite often and I can't really say I've seen much to get excited about for years. that said it's probably one of the best deer hunts in Oregon and if you hunt hard and have some luck you could get a nice buck, that's more than can be said for 99% of Oregon.

Chukar hunt there too and I see lots more and better bucks in Nevada. As a non-resident, 10 points won't guarentee you that tag anyways. Only one NR tag.

I am a Oregon resident and lived in South Central Oregon my whole life. Looking for a out of the way area that could hold a super buck. I was holding out for the Juniper muzzleloader hunt but it could take me 5 more years to draw and too tell you the truth I don't want to wait. Thanks for the ideas, but really looking at the TC. Thanks Jeff

Redside, if you are a resident with 10 preference points then you have the opportunity at some good hunts. Have you ever thought about Hart Mt. Muzzeloader? or NE Whitehorse Muzzleloader? You could draw this year for NE Whitehorse and most likely this year for Hart MT. Look at the ODFW point stats on their web page. The NE whitehorse is a later hunt and might have some snow on the ground with the deer possibly rutting.

I had a raffle tag 2 years ago and spent a week in the trout creek's. Great country, had a fantastic time, didn't see as much as I had hoped. With nobody else around, we saw decent bucks every day, but nothing huge. Couple nice 24-26" bucks and one 30-32" 3-point. Wasn't quite what I was looking for at the time, so we just watched them. Great country---average hunting for deer overall. I know better general areas in the state I grew up in than this tag that takes 10 years for a resident to draw. That being said...........if I had 10 points and wanted to hunt a rifle hunt----it would definitely be fun, and I know there are bigger bucks than what we saw. Good luck.

Jeff Last year I guided a Hunter in there last year and was pre season souting in a few of the holes I mean Freaking Hell Holes. The TCM have a few Great bucks left in them. Between the Indians and the cats they are being hurt real hard. However I did see 2 bucks in the 190 class. Problem client did not tell me he had Lou Gehrigs Disease before he arrived so all of my preseason scouting went to waste but there are a few real real good buck and a 3 point that could almost go B&C client missed him 7 times in 3 days. But there are a few good ones left. Best week to hunt the Creeks is 2nd week. After the Nevada opener a whole pot licker full of bucks showed up from nevada. There were 3 or 4 there that were toads. So Trout Creeks is a fair bet.
