Last night my non hunting wife told me she has been taking her hunters education and has passed her written portion. Wa hoo. It was supposed to be a surprise but she needed help shooting. I am going to go with her on Monday for that part.
My Question is how far do they shoot the three positions, and what are the qualifications for passing it has been over 20 years since I took the class.

At least here in Idaho, where I've taught for years, the range is not a test of skill. We are interested in safety. Shooting is 20 yards, more or less. We are concerned with muzzle control and the principles of firearms control. Marksmanship comes after the class.

Congratulations on getting your wife involved.

swbuckmaster...Congratulations thats awesome. I wish I could get my wife to do the same. She loves going hunting but wont shoot anything. She did mention she would maybe like to take hunter safety a couple months ago. That's cool.

Here in utah they are required to pass a shooting test that also includes safety, my dad and I are hunter ed teachers. They need to pass with 50 percent of their shots with is 30. 10 from each position (standing, kneeling or sitting and prone)and the distance is 50 feet. Tell here good luck.

We just did a shoot test today with 10 students.

In Wyoming we just have to declare full-auto at the door....and shootin' your gun during the written exam is discouraged (distracts the other students).

Congrats on getting your wife into hunting. It is good to see that they include shooting in the test. In BC there is no shooting, just firearm safety. I think being able to accurately shoot should be a requirement.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat?
