Elk hunt

Winter time always finds me reviewing previous hunts and thinking ahead towards future hunts. My father and I had a good elk hunt this year. This year marked the 7th straight year hunting the same area. Over the years we have learned much about the area to add to the memory bank. Weather was mild enough for the small lake we camp near to have some open water, so we did some fishing too. We caught about 1/2 doz rainbows. Heres a few pics.

Congrat's to your dad and you on some lasting memories while hunting and fishing. Beautiful looking country, meat and fish in the freezer :)Doesn't get any better than that.....Thanks for sharing the Pics. Hope you guys do the same again this year and the weather is good on your trip for 2012.

Thanks guys. We've done well over the years, but the fishing aspect of things definately was an added bonus this year. Talk about a battle. Cheap little spinning rod and real, 4 pound test, panther marthin spinners. 15-20 minute fight was the norm. We only had 1 rod between the 2 of us, that will change next year. Looking forward to next year already.
Fallguy, 300 Wthby in a Vangaurd model. To my knowledge its a model they no longer produce. It was there backcountry light weight rifle. Its a dream to carry and packs a punch, however I think I know the reason it was discontinued acouple years back. That rifle broke 2 stocks, obviously cant take the recoil of that caliber. That stock in the picture after we got home was double checking the zero before deer hunting (normally groups well and wouldnt group well), and found out it must have broke on the elk hunt. Took the stock off and found a big crack in it by the bedding blocks and another back by the trigger area. Got a McMillan stock on order so hopefully that solves that issue.

That looks freakin awesome did a moose hunt a few years ago and caught fish like that I will never forget that trip hope you never forget this trip memories like that those are hard to replace congrats

I can see why you've spent 7 years in that area. Nice! Great fishing hole to boot. Them some lunkers there!

Looks like a slamming camp, I love the tent setup.
Shooting elk and catching fish, NICE
