Another point or jump on in?

After a bunch of years of applying I'm now at 9 points as a nonresident. Looking at all the statistics, it looks like I may now have a pretty good chance at a few of the LE archery tags. Possibilities may include the Wasatch, the Dutton, and the Lakes. These decisions are always part of the fun... but sooo hard to decide some times. If you were in my hunting boots, would you try for one of these now or hold on a few more years for more possibilities? Opinions anyone?

why wait any longer! Nothing good last for ever! The wolves are starting to take there share and there's nothing Utah can do to prevent it.

Id cash in but remember Utah isn't an archery friendly state. There are no guarantees on a big bull with an archery tag! The more you know about an area the better. So if you have never put in for an area you are defiantly handicapped.

Just Look at the average days hunted on a LE unit with archery equipment and it might scare the crap out of ya!

Thanks for the input. I'd probably hunt the last two weeks of the season. I'm a ways away so I probably would only be able to get in one scouting trip. I've been fortunate enough to take some nice bulls already and honestly success on a big bull is not the most important thing to me. I archery hunt for the close in experience and the chance to hunt these guys in the rut. Getting in the middle of screaming bulls is such a rush, the rest is just iceing on the cake.

Sounds like you have the right attitude to take on a hunt like this. I wish you all the luck.

But id burn your points

If you're set on archery- I can't see any reason not to put in now... Good luck

Dont overlook Book Cliffs as a archery destination. I havent checked the odds, but I believe it is in that same range

With a great attitude like that, I'd burn the points. I'd be more than willing to help a guy like you out with what I know of Dutton and Wasatch. I'm sure there are plenty of guys that would do the same because of your traveling situation. LE archery elk is the best!

Thanks for the input guys. Now I just got to make up my mind where to apply and hope for the luck of the draw!

Looking at non-resident draw odds on biggamedrawodds.com, it looks like you have a good pretty good chance at the Wasatch and Lakes and maybe others. I'd probably draw the tag now. I'm a resident and like you I just want to hunt and enjoy the experience and these two units are fun. Let us know what you do and maybe we can help you out. Good Luck!
