Late Hunts?

Would like an educated opinion on the late hunts in the Manti, The Dutton and Fishlake. Getting close on drawing with 11 points so I need to start planning. Would a muzz hunt be a better choice? Thanks for any help. Cheers. -Roadtrip

Im pretty sure you more than close to drawing. I believe at 11 points your a shoe in for at least one of them units. I only know the dutton for the late and it really is hit or miss by year but I love that place. I have helped take many bulls in the last few years from there in all seasons. The late hunt can be very good one year and very tough the next. And that mountain is one rough SOB

Looking at biggamedrawodds.com, you would be guaranteed a draw last year with 11 points on all three units as a resident or a non-resident. That was the max needed for the non-resident so unless someone jumps in ahead of you, you would probably have it this year. I don't know too much about the late hunts. My brothers friend went out on the Fishlake late hunt a couple years ago. They saw lots of bulls and then ended up shooting the wrong one cause he got too excited and didn't wait for the big one to come out. I think with late hunts, a lot will do with the weather. In 2010 we had lots of snow in November but hardly any in 2011. The muzzy hunt wouldn't be dependent on the weather as much in my opinion. You'd have bugling bulls still and all that to go on. Tough choice. Good luck.

Spent the last twelve years hunting the Manti for elk. The late hunt can be done and a good bull found but as said before, alot depends on the weather. The bulls there will go into the roughest, nastiest canyons with pine timber to rest up. I have helped a few people and know of some others that have had that hunt and have had a rough go of it to find even a 320 bull. Sept. and Oct. are much easier times to find the bigger boys. I would much rather have the muzzy tag there than the late.
