Wasatch, Fishlake, or West Desert?

I posted this on the Utah site but time is running short so I,ll ask it here also. My son should have enough points to draw any of the early hunts. I have hunted the Wasatch but not the others but would have plenty of time to scout. Which one would you all pick?

thanks

He,s applying for the rifle hunt. We live in California. He can't get off work to scout but I can and have plenty of time to scout.

Wasatch because you've already hunted it so have a very good place to start...

It would depend on the size of bull your son is after. My personal opinion, the fishlake and Wasatch have a few good bulls on them and lots on 280-330 range. I have never hunted west desert, but the bulls they seem to pull off there are pretty impressive. If he is after that 350+ bull, it may be to his benefit to look outside of those units or wait a few more years until he can draw one of the more premier units in the state.

I would probably have to say Wasatch as well, just because you have had hunted it before. Good luck can't wait to hear about the hunt.

I would also say that you should hunt areas that you know. It is much easier to hunt places that you know already. This site is a great place for information and to learn new things though.

Fishlake can be a tough hunt. It is a lot like Wasatch in that the unit is HUGE! There is a lot of area to cover. Like others have said though...330-340 is going to be a good bull anymore. There are bigger around...just tougher to find.

If you decide Fishlake I am always looking for an excuse to get out....let me know.

He can draw ANY of the early hunts? Then SJ ;-) the snatch would be way down the list if can draw any of them..

Not sure about West Desert. The other two both have great potential. I would pick the one that you live closer to allowing you more time to hunt and scout. I think proximity sometimes is the determining factor.

I don't think there is any other quality
so essential to success of any kind as the
quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.

I should have made it clearer. He should be able to draw the early hunt in these units-Wasatch, fishlake, West Desert, and even Manti. He doesn't have enough points to draw any unit in Utah. I"m sure he would be happy with a 330+ bull.
