I'm pretty sure those aspen tounge and grove slats are 4 inches tall. If you use this as your measuring tool this buck is well over 200.

left
MB=27
G1=3.5
G2=19
G3=13.5
G4=12
mass=18
NT point=1

right
MB=27.5
G1=3.5
G2=19.5
G3=14
G4=13
mass=18
NT point 2.5
inside spread= 23

215 gross. this buck nets b&c all day long. if I take an inch of of every measurment except for the mass and the NT points this buck is still over 200. Can't wait to see the final score on this one.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-07 AT 01:00AM (MST)[p]Cabinfever, you also have to concider that some of those tines are 2' from that wall makeing them look bigger than they really are. I would subtract atleast 2"s off of all your tines and give it 16"s of mass instead of 18. No way are those 27" mb as well. I would say the guess's between 184 and 195 are pretty close. That is a good Idea though you just need to adjust it a bit.

Wow, I must have way underestimated this deer. I don't see the mass you guys are talking about. I guessed him 181-ish. Now I'm really interested to see.

Jake, I thought about that after I posted it, but even at that this deer scores higher than guys are guessing. Maybe I'll be eating crow after the true score is revealed.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-07 AT 01:48PM (MST)[p]I put in 196 2/8 gross a couple days ago. I think his mass is very average and that his tine length is fantastic all the way around along with 25" main beams. Good or should I say great deer.

T264

P.S. 7 1/2 to 8" of brow tines don't hurt his score either.

cabinfever, I think you are close on measurements except for the main beams. I think he is definately high 190's. Can't wait to see!

Zekers, i think your right. After I really scrutinized the tines i came up with about 25 inch MB. My orignal guess was 215 and I think he's closer to 208 gross. i also think i estimated a little to high on his G2's and mass, but not by much.

This is a tricky one guys.. In a hunting situation if you had your sights set to kill a 200" buck would he make the grade? or if you wanted a net book typical would he make it? this type of buck can be the hardest to judge, not to mention the early september cape and small ear set....Good luck. I went in at 207 2/8 a few days ago. I'm pretty much in agreement with cabinfever, average mass and fantastic length - I'll throw in symmetry too. I don't mind being shown I'm way off base, but in my estimate this deer nets book.

Regarding the 200" question - I can only hold out for that if I get to include both the length and circumpherence of the woodie I'll be sportin' if I kill a buck like that!

DUH! Guess it was yesterday, seems like a long time ago ..

I'm thinking those are 1x6 planks, otherwise his chest cavity is only about 14" from back to brisket. The planks should be about 5" on the reveal. I am new to field judging, my guess was 212 6/8, might be on the high side but, i gotta learn somehow.

I guesses a few days ago and guessed the same thing as Chesterwyo....197 3/8....or was it 5/8.....shoot, now I dont remember.

Great buck and taxidermy!
