Mark,

I hunted unit 10 last year, if you want, send me a PM with your info and I'll give you a call.

Thanks for any help I can get. I have been in the unit a couple times but not hunting for elk. My cell # is 208-993-1760. Call anytime and If I am not there I will call you back so you do not have to burn up your dime or is it a quarter now. Thanks Mark.

Mark, I drew that tag a few years ago but would be happy to tell you where I hunted and what I saw. Send me a PM.

Funny how things seem to snowball. I grew up in Az, from Az and lived there for 27 years. Yes I have only been in the unit twice. I do not feel the need to hire an outfitter since that is not my style. They do serve a great use for some that have not hunted much or know very little about elk hunting in general.I now live in Idaho so scouting is not an option with my job. No hard feelings just wanted to get as many view points about the unit and its quirks. Nice thing about ID is you get to hunt elk every year. No monsters as in Az but after harvesting 14 elk think I can still get it done. Thanks to all for the support and help given, Mark.

LAST EDITED ON May-23-12 AT 04:18PM (MST)[p]Don't let these guys get you down with applying for and getting a tag in a unit you've never hunted in or even been in. I drew AZ unit 9 archery with 14 points without ever having been in the unit. We had a blast and killed two 330" bulls, DIY. No guides for that hunt or ever in my past. Can't see ever hiring a guide either. I want to do more than walk behind someone and pull the trigger. I want to be the one to find the bull and get it done on my own terms.

I, like many guys, apply for many units in many states for many species. Does anyone think that I or others have been to or ever scouted the unit? I do what I can to maximize my opportunities to get the best tags in every state I can and applying for quality hunts in as many states as possible is how you do it. I have 15 pts for LE deer in UT, but I have never stepped onto the the Henry Mtns. Not sure what that makes me, other than persistent and possibly smart for using my time and money wisely.

Have a blast on your hunt and chase bugles at night so you're lined up at first light and nap during the middle of the day.

Thanks for the support and this is exactly how you get drawn for more than 1 tag in a lifetime. This advice is what I have heard from 4 different folks so far.

As BWHT4X4 said don't let some of these idiots get you down or try and make you feel bad for not knowing much about the unit. I've been putting in for a "trophy unit" here in oregon for over 15yrs and not ONCE have I been in the unit as a lot of hunters I know.

Best of luck to ya and kill a biggin!

A previous 27 year resident of AZ that has killed 14 elk is begging? How about asking?

Doesn't sound like begging to me and probably most people that read this thread would agree.

Thanks Muleyman. At least they know who there are by name. Sometimes it is hard to rise above one's own pettyness and wish goodluck to others. No offense taken nmbighorn.
