I need help. Just recieved an email that I had drawn ELK-1-162. I did not put in for this draw hunt. Is this a leftover hunt they assigned to me. I need help. Can someone point me in the right direction for someone to talk to. Please help

Did you put in for the 4th choice to get any leftover tag in a quadrant? If not you might want to cal NMDGF to see why they gave you this hunt. 50 is a tough hunt but there are elk in there. Might want to keep it.

A bull tag as a "leftover" tag I find hard to believe. Have you double checked your application?

There's elk in 50 to be had. Keep it for sure.

The hunt was my fourth choice for that quadrant. It is MB labeled ELK-1-162 (MALEBULL) I'm supper pumped I even get the chance to go. Any potiners would be helpful.

Tough hunt for sure, but there's DEFINATELY elk there. This will be my 3rd year in 50 with 3 hunters in my party. We've managed to get one bull between us in both of the previous years. Lots of road hunters, so get off the beaten path a couple hundred yards and you'll see more. If we don't get rain, water is pretty hard to find. I guess you got drawn for the 2nd hunt? Send me a PM and I might be able to help you out. I've put in way too many miles on the truck and my boots to advertise it here.

Find some water and setup looking for elk coming and leaving the water.

South side of pot mountain . Find the steepest nastiest stuff you can and let the yahoos road hunting push em there . It's down hill getting your elk out . Not your typical elk habitat . You can also find in the canyon just east of the mnt but that's a photo shoot only you would need a helicopter t get em out

I like the idea of sitting up high and letting the road hunters push them my way. Im also planning to get as far off any road as I can

As already said 50 is a hard unit. One of the hardest I know. I forget where I saw this but it has like a 17% success rate and I agree. I live within 30 min from the unit and have hunted it a lot. I have killed a bull in 50 but that was pure luck in my opinion. If you do keep the tag stoot any legal bull you see if you see one.

Good Luck

I drew the tag from the state. I didn't know that I had the option of keeping the tag. I'd rather pay a little more and buy a land owner tag for 53. Not gonna gripe though.
