for you montana mule deer hunters... if you could choose one limited entry buck tag what would you pick?? missouri breaks? elkhorns? CMR? ....???

The Breaks aren't LE. There are two LE areas where I live. I don't pick 270, but I am glad most people do. Improves my odds. mtmuley

Only one unit in the breaks is LE, the CMR you can hunt with a general tag. The elkhorns are known for elk...have you even looked at MT regs?

This is my post

I've just pissed in my pants.......and nobody can do anything about it.

The elkhorns have a LE for mule deer also but I don't think it is for trophy quality just to limit the take. Saw a guy with a 20 inch 4x4 dead there this fall and he was pretty excited about it.

I don't have the regs in my hand but I think 270 and 312 are a couple examples of draw areas. When I get the regs I'll post some.

There is a limited quota area in eastern Montana, between Jordand and Glasgow, area 652 I beleive. Can be good at times but not great. I happened to be at my taxidermist one evening when a guy brought one in from there. He had us measure it and was like 175 and some change. Real nice frame, but just needed that extra year or two to really reach his potential as he was pretty young. A freind of mine had a tag in there this fall as well and hunted it pretty hard and said that he never saw anything worth pulling the trigger on. I guess what I am saying is, you are better off somewhere else.

dist. 270, is my choice. My favorite is 652, it is a blast to hunt with alot of mulies around. I have drawn 3 tags in the last ten years in 652. My first tag was the first year for block management in the area and it was the best hunt I had in the area, alot of area was opened up that has not been hunted without alot of pressure. There were alot of mature bucks running around, that year I had a new rifle with me and I was not fimilar with it and missed a high 170"/low 180" buck, I sold it and went back to the old .270.
652 has the potential for a B&C head, if the conditions are right i.e. the drought....
I have worked alot of country in 652, and there are alot of mature 4x3 bucks. A guy will have to work hard to find a mature 4x4 buck, but they are there, in 2003/2004 there was a 200+ buck shot in the dist, the genes are there but
Need the right conditions to harvest a great buck in this dist.
Great area for getting a youth started in hunting....
