What did you apply for?? NM

my son and I applied for these general deer hunts:

deer- der-1-160 unit 24 rifle early 11/03-11/07
deer- der-1-162 unit 24 rifle late 11/10-11/14
deer- der-1-139 unit 16 rifle early 11/03-11/07

I applied for these mobility impaired antelope hunts:

antelope- ant-1-101 several units rifle 08/04-08/05
antelope- ant-1-112 " " " " " 08/04-08/05
antelope- ant-1-110 " " " " " 09/15-09/16

I applied for these mobility impaired elk hunts:

elk- elk-3-171 bull elk unit 52 muzz 10/06-10/10
elk- elk-1-308 bull elk unit 34 rifle 09/29-10/03
elk- elk-1-237 bull elk unit 16a rifle 10/06-10/10

last year I drew the M.I. antelope and took a very nice, wide 82" buck on the first afternoon, I did miss 7 shots at 3 other antelope first thing in the morning. it took me that long to realize my scope had shifted and I was shooting a full foot high at 200 yards. that sucked butt big time ! we put a freak of nature to bed the night before the opener, got about 1/2 hour of videotape at 92-300 yards and by all acounts he would hit 90"+ I missed him 3 times.

I did NOT draw the elk hunt at all, that was not good as I knew two other hunters who did draw and had very VERY successful hunts, with both taking bulls over 300"

My son did'nt apply with me last year for the general deer hunt, I drew one unit 24 tag myself. however the week prior I was in colorado taking that pig of a buck up there and by the time I got back home and had that deer taken care of I could not even go on the new mexico deer hunt. I spent my wad on the colorado trip and did'nt have the fuel money, or the additional two hundred seventy dollars for the actual non resident tag for that deer hunt. I did great in colorado so I wasn't really worried about the new mexico hunt until I got some photos from other guys who had that tag as well. they took some monsters in deed. I will NOT skip ANY hunts this fall no matter what I have to do I am freaking going if I draw !!!!! so good luck to everyone.

Hunterman 67,

Am I reading your post correctly? You drew New Mexico 24 last year, but didn't have to pay the full tag fee after drawing? In other words, you can put in, draw, and opt not to buy the actual tag and only have it cost you the application fee?

Thanks,

WH

Wallhanger, Yes for deer if you draw you get a voucher that says you got drew for your 6.00 Then you must go buy a deer license over the counter for the area you drew for. So he drew but did not go buy the license.

I put in for deer and elk.

Deer, Elk, Antelope, Sheep. First time applying in NM and all were low odds archery hunts. My best chance would be 3rd choice deer in 23 for coues.

yes that is exactly what I did. I applied online and paid the $6.00 app fee. then I was told online I drew the tag. I did NOT however go and buy the $270.00 tag. I got no points or anything like that, I got in no trouble as even though I drew I don't have to actually go and buy the tag. I just could'nt come up with the extra money needed to go on the hunt, colorado's hunt was a little more money than I thought and I could'nt afford to go on both. no worries as I will not do that again ! the offseason is too long and alot of very nice bucks were taken on that hunt- DAMMITT !!!!!

Thanks for the info, guys. Had I known that, I would've put in. I put in in Utah, and didn't want to eat the 200 bucks on one or the other tags, because I can't get off work for two hunts in three weeks. Thanks again. Good luck in the draws.

that is the one thing good about application fee's. you only pay the fee's to enter, if something happens and you cannot go then you just don't go buy the tag for the rest. however if you use your card on elk and/or antelope and draw the tag they charge you automatically and you cannot get it back. I pulled my deer fees back in because I did not have them. I drew antelope and was charged the $270 immediately, I did not draw the elk so only the app fee.
