My 14-yr old son, first year applying, drew a late South Cache bull elk tag. I am pretty familiar with the North Cache, but only have limited experieince on the southside. I figured I'd start marking up maps and getting more familiar with the area this weekend (pretty good Father's Day weekend, I'd say).

I realize things will be different in Novemeber, but we wanted to start the info gathering and reconnoitering early. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure you talk to forest service and find out when they close the roads. Usually second or third day of hunt, not a fun suprise. Good luck!

I think they close the roads on the 15th of Nov. Talk to Woodruff Hunter. Helped him and his wife on a late hunt and seen a few good bulls.

Both my dad I drew this tag this year as well. I have spent a lot of time on this unit. I have found that the elk are not in the same place as they were in the earlier seasons. I am perfectly content with shooting a 300ish bull. I have seen a lot of bulls on the unit in November. I think this will be a hoorah!!!!

Thanks to those who have replied. I hope to see you up there Reactor - with bulls in the backs of both our trucks.

I was up there last weekend, mostly just getting familiar with the area. I did see a lots of deer and one moose (cow), but no elk. Did a little hiking in some good looking areas as well. Also, saw a lot of ATVs, but kudos to them - they were all on the roads, some motorcycles on the other hand....

As the season gets closer, we'll do some more foot travel and looking around. And in following Reactor's goals, I'm sure my 14 yr old would be more than satisfied with anything 300ish (actually that's probably my goal :).

Just bumping this to the top to see how the rest of the hunts have gone and if anybody's noticed if the elk are moving.

I was up over the weekend hunting and was noticing most of the real big bulls seem to be seperating from the cow herds. They are still close to them but not trying to run the whole bunch anymore. Seen several big ones off by themselves also.

Don't be afraid to live for fear of dieing.
