I drew on the pahvant any weapon unit finally. I have never hunted this area. If anyone has any ideas on were to start I would greatly appreciate it.

Get a map of the area and scout hard or call a guide.

All depends on your physical ability. That range is one steep, deep, thick SOB from Meadow North. The southend around Kanosh is a little more gentle. The Elk move around a lot depending on the particular season. There are a few that hang down low but in August most are on top. A lot of private land secition that are all marked down low. When the rut begins they move all over the place. As HJB stated start looking over the area with topo maps and identify water sources. They will be near by come mid September.

Everyone says they're willing to hunt the hell-holes but when it come down to it, few actually do. Remember, all the hiking into and out of the country should be done in the dark or you'll arrive too late and leave the elk country too early.
It's steep and deep country. Even the south end can be challenging. Those "gentle" hill become huge when you're packing gear and/or 75lbs of antlers and wet cape!
I'd start up high (north), depending on the weather, but from there you'll have to drop WAY down into the deep canyons to get away from the roads and people. Even during the rut the elk are not stupid and you'll need to hunt smart. Be prepared for an hellacious pack-out if you kill one.
