LAST EDITED ON Jun-13-12 AT 11:01AM (MST)[p]Like the others have said, it all depends on you physical/mental abilities.
Everyone says they're willing to hunt the hell-holes but when it come down to it, few actually do. Remember, all the hiking into and out of the country should be done in the dark or you'll arrive too late and leave the elk country too early.
It's steep and deep country. Even the south end can be challenging. Those "gentle" hill become huge when you're packing gear and/or 75lbs of antlers and wet cape!
I'd start up high (north), depending on the weather, but from there you'll have to drop WAY down into the deep canyons to get away from the roads and people. Even during the rut the elk are not stupid and you'll need to hunt smart. Be prepared for an hellacious pack-out if you kill one.
Good luck, Zeke
PS: Or just hire a good outfitter. The last thing you'll want to do is squander a once-in-a-lifetime tag!
