We purchased some 16e Land Owner vouchers for New Mexico. We are going to be bow hunting. I haven't hunted 16E ever before. We have my mules to pack in and ride. Are there areas that we can pack into? Or are we better off to just trailer camp and ride in? I have maps coming but I wanted to pick your guys' brains 1st.
Thanks Bryan

LAST EDITED ON Jun-24-12 AT 12:59PM (MST)[p]I'd go to the west end around Pelona MT for pack in hunting. The east side around Luera Mt is N/A for camping. Had the tag last year for the last week of Archery and hunted the west side. Good unit if you can put on some miles and keep up. Last year was tuff but did see some animals.
Good luck.

Did you buy your tags directly from a landowner or a tag broker? Regardless, check with with your tag seller to see if access comes with the tag (it should and hopefully there is some worthwhile access from the actual landowner). Might save you a lot of headache and time if you can come in from good private access. If you have good private land to hunt with your LO tag, access won't be an issue. I'd do my homework with your tag seller....

I think the Game Commission just passed something allowing you to camp on most state land this year which means access to Luera might be a bit easier. Not having to traverse that road every day will save everybody some time to get into their hunting spots.

Perfect! Thanks a lot for that link. Does anyone know of any good pilots and planes down there? If we can figure out a way to afford it we might try to fly it sometime and get a good feel for how the land lays out.

you can fly a flight simulator on google earth for free. Choose the slow plane and fly low over the terrain. You can also adjust the time of day to around sunrise or sunset to increase the visibility of the relief. I was successful in 16E 2 years ago and can share some info if you would like.
