I will be moving up to montana in August to attend the University of Montana. My question is about residency, someone told me that montana has a provision that if you are a student or in the armed services that you gain residency status immediately upon moving there. I was just wondering if anyone knew if this was true or not?

False on the student part, not sure about the vets. You have to change your residency to Montana for 6 months, license plates, work, home address, ect.... which means you cannot go to school if I am not mistaken.

In addition to what sheepeater said I think if you registered as a NR student and wish to change your residency you can not carry more then 6 credits. Something like that.

You can get your residency as a student, but you must reside in state for 6 months as a Montana resident before you can buy resident hunting licenses( you must change address, Montana vehicle licensing, register to vote in Montana and get a Montana drivers license to become a resident).

You are going to the wrong school in Montana. I think you have to get a drivers license, and then wait 6 months.

Have a neice and nephew at the U. Neice HAD NO PROBLEM WITH RESIDENCE.Moved here and lived with her mom (sister #1) The other lives in his own house (rented) registered his car, registered to vote ETC... Moved here by himself (sister #2) No problem getting his HUnt/fish License after 6 months, But instate tuition was a whole nother issue.

You're going to Missoula? You do know that school is full of liberal hippies, right? Your choice I guess.

As far as residency, the school should have the requirements on their website.

HAHAHA! As a matter of fact. . . LOL. Im sure that it will be fine. And the more liberal hippies, the less people I have to worry about being on the mountain killing all of the animals that I cant find.
