Nevada Mule Deer question

According to Nevada, they don't give refunds if you draw a tag and can't go. I know a lot of you apply for several states so what happens if you draw two states over the same time period? Do you eat one of the tags? This sounds ridiculous especially if you've got years of preference points. Montana gives refunds and then just sells the tags that people send back. What do you do?

eat it. ive had a couple tags over the years that i couldnt hunt and thats that. sucks but thats the way it is.

Happy Hunting

Most of these states aint in the Caring business.
It's tough if it happens, but there aint much you can
do about it except be smart, thoughtfull and sneaky when
you apply.

Major down side, but beats not drawing anything.

If you have a good reason sometimes they will refund your money and points. Medical, legal, military etc. had a Kansas tag last year with a medical problem, they said too bad. Also had a Wyoming sheep tag and got hurt on a mule deer hunt, spent 15days in Jackson Hole hospital and didn't get a new tag, they said had to have it submitted before season started, I said if I knew I was going to get hurt before the season started, I wouldn't need their damn tag, I would just go buy a lotto ticket and buy a tag. Good luck

Nevada does for medical for sure. I would imagine military also. Not sure about legal. They will even reinstate your points. I know someone who drew a primo archery elk tag and then cut his hand severely just before the season. He got a doctor to explain it and gave it back as far before the season as he could. The alternate got the tag and happily killed a bull. The next year the guy with the cut hand drew again because he had his points back and killed a nice bull.

I lost all my points in Az last year on a tag I couldn't use. I donated it to "hunts of a lifetime". Just the way it goes sometimes.

Yup! Sucks to be you if you draw multiple tags. Crap, I can't even draw one. <smile>

LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-07 AT 08:09PM (MST)[p]Another twist to this whole thing is the poor outfitter. What if you can't make a hunt for whatever reason, does the outfitter get screwed out of a multi thousand dollar trip too?

It seems like there could be an alternates list for these kinds of things.

Oregon and Idaho, don't purchase the tag.

Colorado will either refund the $$ or points, not both. you decide. Last year it was $$ only. This year either.

Nevada has always had month long deer season till this year so It wasn't a problem. Most of my mule deer apps are for Nov so that means I don't draw very many tags.

I did eat a Region G tag once but it was 92 and a tremendous dieoff so I went to Montana instead.

Applying for 30 tags a year plus 15-18 for my son and we've only eaten a 2 point Colorado Deer tag and a Kali deer in the last 5 years.

Just decide which tag is a better tag and go.

Hope I have that problem this year.

I can't remember the last time I ate a tag over dates that seemed to close together.

I don't know where you live so I can't give ya advice on re-organizing your hunt trip (s) to hunt any two states...

I live in a perfect state for hunting any direction with in a days travel. So that plays a big role in me not eating any tags.

Split the two hunts 1/2 in one and 1/2 in another...just a thought...

If it happens and your traveling and need an 'overnight' quick stop and don't want to worry or have to unload all your gear from your vehicle at some hotel parking lot.... your welocme to bunk here for a night in your travels... right off I-15, 3 miles from I-84 and about 25 miles from I-80.

Thanks PleaseDear. I applied for a guy and he drew the Nevada tag but he won't be back from Africa until after the deer hunt. I guess he can afford to eat the tag then. My hunts would never overlap because I only apply for Montana. Hopefully that will change soon.
