LAST EDITED ON Apr-29-07 AT 10:15AM (MST)[p]Looking for suggestions - I would like to spend apprx $4,000 to kill a nice mule deer. When I say nice, I'm looking for a solid mid 160 class or better. Ideally, I would like to take a mid 160 with great mass. I'm open to options and will be hunting with rifle. I'm looking for 2008 and don't have enough points built up in AZ, CO, or UT yet. I'm from TX and this will be my first out of state hunt, if that matters.

Right now, I've got two different outfitters I'm considering. One is out of Sheridan, WY - open plains, and the other is apprx 25 miles south of Jackson, WY - wilderness hunt.

Hello

I sent you a PM, I may be able to help you out with your question.

Thanks Tim

Unless you'ld prefer to go with an outfitter I'd say get a Colorado LO tag in that price range and do it yourself if you're set up for it.

After doing some research on this site, it appears that LO vouchers aren't too popular. With being new to all this (the voucher system), I don't know that I'd feel good about purchasing a voucher (fraud, brokers, etc). How does a person purchase a voucher? Should I call up the DOW, or how should I approach this if I were to purchase a voucher?

Good question, the brokers are out of the deal with the new laws I guess, Garth Carter will refer members free of charge he says. don't be afraid of the tag it's just how you go about getting it that might be a problem. there are outfitters in Colorado with tags to go with the hunt but I can't tell you about the quality of animals or price they charge.

You can hunt in BC for that price and you don't need to draw a tag. Plenty of outfitters that should be able to produce a mid 160 buck with above average mass. For a list of outfitters check out the guides and outfitters association of BC's website, www.goabc.org I would recommend looking at the links to the individual outfitter's websites when you click on a particular Region. I'd start with Region 4 and Region 5. You will see price lists and photos galleries showing the quality of deer they produce. If several catch your eye, email them and find out more specifics.

Thanks for all the replies. Now the real research begins; of course what else would I rather be doing this time of year but looking for my next hunting opportunities.

The owner / outfitter posts on here a lot. Hunts in Region J on private property. 100% draw rate and usually leftover licenses are available each year. Very high success rate. Send me a PM if you want more info or just call Jim.
