Hopefully, you have time to be here for the last week or two of the hunt. Obviously, they are getting into the rut right at the last. You will have a blast. Good luck!

You may not see a ton of bulls until in July, don't get discouraged, just learn the roads.

Go to the Rock Pile. That is as good a starting point as any.

Also, the big bulls like the deep nasty canyons. There are roads all over the unit, but there are a few canyons that are just terribly nasty. Hike in those and look around. You won't have a problem being into bulls.

Like Utah450 said, focus the last week of the season. Check the moon phases and try and get there when it is dark.

I'm jealous. I would say you have one of the Top 5 bull units in the country.

I will be there the last 3 week of the hunt and hopefully they will be talking. I lived just north of dove creek in a little place called Slick Rock and have been around that area but never hunted it come on August.

Thanks guys

I'll agree. Take all your time during the hunt. Everything will change even during the hunt at that time of the year. Pleanty of elk and you will have a great time. You'll probably want to stay high at that time of the year. Good luck on your hunt. Someday I"ll have my San Juan tag!!!

rcopley,
Would you be willing to call me. I live in Cortez and my wife drew one of the desert bighorn tags for this year.
