Montana 621- 622 Bucks???

Doing an archery elk hunt north shore of the CMR in 621 & 622 and have a deer tag to go along. Anybody ever do much up in that neck? Decent bucks? Hang near shore, or off far? Any info on what NOT to pass up when I'm chasing elk would be helpful.

You should see some nice 150 class mulies, biggest I've seen on the hoof are 170-180 class bucks. But I've seen bigger come thru check stations and seen bigger sheds. Don't look for wide spreads, there just aren't the genetics for that in MT for the most part. Mulies are easier to find and hunt north of the CMR in speedgoat land, less hunters too. Be sure to check out some of the BLM and block management in those districts.

EdPre, read my post in the elk forum also. On my rifle elk hunt opening week, my buddy took a 185 inch buck. He was high on mass and tine length, but not width. We did see one big non typical that was possibly 30 inches, but he snuck away in the flat sage country. As mentioned, get all block management maps. Get the BLM maps for the area also. If a 160 plus buck offers a shot, especially with a bow, kill it. mtmuley
