Just drew Wasatch...first elk tag

Didn't expect that call this afternoon! Somebody turned in a LE Wasatch archery tag and they pulled my name out of the hat.

Thanks to whoever turned the tag back in! Rest assured it is appreciated! This will be my first elk hunt and I'm incredibly excited.

I guess Bessy's statement about lack of antler growth got someone a tag. Apparently I wasn't next up on the list to get turned in tags since I applied for that hunt myself.

Just pulled one of my cameras this year and I would have to disagree with Bobcat. The great water last year, the mild winter, and the decent rain so far have the bulls looking better than I have seen in the last 3 years on the wasatch. No one must have killed any spikes last year because there is a bumper crop of 2 1/2 old bulls. Every yearlend bull had 2 to 3 points but 1 so far.

Probably extra money from not buying conservation permits and I can start buying moose hunts in Alaska ;-) or maybe I will just hunt hillcreek for about the same cost.

I was not talking about the future bess, just the shape of the elk this year. Yes I agree it is getting harder and harder to find big bulls, but there are plenty of old bulls. Go figure.

Since when will 4,000 cows be slaughtered? What kind of math is that? Usually success rate is 50% or worse!
