Ladies and Gents,

I have been a lurker on this site for about 2 yrs now. Moved to Idaho and now plan to bow hunt elk. I have an archery tag for unit 43-44-48 which is a new area to me but a very high success rate.

I purchased trail maps, and plan to hike in, but was curious if there are any Forrest service roads up there so I can drive in a little.

Any help in that area would be great. Thanks

There are plenty of roads in unit 43 that will give you great access. Alot of the roads are open until Sept 25th and then they are closed. There are alot of motorcycle trails throughout the unit so those closed roads wont stop alot of people. These trails really put a damper on the hunting and youll have plenty of encounters with people when you think your miles from any motorized access. It sucks but thats what youll have to put up with. Theres plenty of deer and elk to hunt if you put in your time and work hard.
Im sure you realize that unit 44 is not open for bowhunting elk or deer and you can only hunt there for spike elk Nov.1-Nov.7 on that tag. Good luck, you should have a fun hunt.
