LAST EDITED ON Aug-29-12 AT 11:13PM (MST)[p]They wallow more during the rut than any other time. Wallows are great to sit on towards the end of the archery hunt!

Hey yote,
My son killed a nice bull(320) sitting a wallow last year. We did have trail cam pictures of the bull coming in so we knew a good one was using the wallow. If you have the time and a camera, you might want to try that before sitting it for too many days, to make sure a bull you want is coming to it.
Good luck

During peak rut, the bigger bulls will wallow mornings and evenings. Earlier on, especially when it is hot, wallows can get a visit mid-day if they are close to a bull's bedding area.

Best of Luck,
Jeff

I had 3 different bulls hit the wallow my camera was on last night. The first one was at midnight, then one at 7 in the morning and one was there from 7:45 am to 8:21 am. Pretty fun pics. I think that there will be more as the rut picks up.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-12 AT 11:23PM (MST)[p]Here's a bull I photographed at a wallow in a LE unit when I hunted there a few years ago. He wandered around, feeding in range, for about 45 minutes. I took a few photos, but never lifted my bow. Later, I thought that maybe I should have shot him when I was going home with that tag in my pocket....

hey bighorn went up checked my cam on the wallow have a nice 6x6 useing it but way early in the morn and a rag horn used it once last week but not much more than that. It was nice and cold tonight still no bulls answering cow calls 13 days left im hopeing for colder temps

Keep after it yote!
My son sat his wallow for three straight days before his bull came in about 5:30 pm. That is a lot of dull tree time and we were about to give up, but patience paid off.

We were out spike/cow hunting this weekend on the Wasatch. The bulls were pretty fired up yesterday morning in the area we hunted and bugled until about 11 am. They were in a nasty hole so we didn't go in after them.

Wallows are social meeting places for elk... both bulls and cows. Yes, several different bulls will use the same wallows. Keep hunting over the wallow but mind the wind and setup so the prevaling wind is in your favor. Since this type of hunting is a close-in affair if the wind isn't right hunt somewhere else until it is. Good Luck!
