My son Jacob was 12 last year. All he could think about was Moose. Well he put in for one and we got the check back. His next slam dunk option for hunting was a second go round Youth Doe tag. He was game and we started to get ready. Jacob had been shooting a 243 for a while and was good with it. All we had to do was practice. On opening day his plan was to find the biggest buck he could and shoot the doe that was with him. I could not believe he was passing does just to find the biggest buck. Well we found a Huge 30" buck, along with about 10 does and 150 elk! At that moment I wished I would have put him in for a second chance cow elk! We got into place for the shot and the buck sniffed the doe. He turned and curled his lip and the doe was clear for the shot. Jacob shot her through the lungs and yanked the rug on his first deer. He was so excited about this hunt, it was fun to be a part of it. I am making deer jerky this weekend. I remembered I never shared the hunt. Ron

That's Awesome! My first deer at age 12 was a doe shot with my Mom's .243 in Unit 44 of Idaho. May as well have been a monster nontypical at that age. I'll never forget it!

Thanks for sharing,

Kicker

Jacob would love to get a moose. I think he will be putting in for second go round deer and elk for a while. Moose is all that is on his mind. Ron
