Utah Elk - Ferron Canyon

Im from Arizona and it is getting hard to get drawn here for elk here. I suppose I can thank you all for that.(sarcasm) Anyways, I put in for New Mexico last year and this year they would not let non-residents hunt for cow elk in the same unit. I decided to try Utah this year. After looking around I decided on a few units in central utah. I put in and got drawn for the Ferron Canyon unit. As an added bonus I'm looking forward to going to Ferron because my grandma was raised there.

Here comes the e-scouting help, I'm not looking for honey holes, just some areas to find some cow elk.

That's a pretty big place to hunt. I have seen elk all over up there. Is your hunt the same time as the spike elk hunt? The elk are pretty high and they stay pretty high, even last year on the late elk big bull hunt they were still up high. I would try to hunt below Ferron resevoir.

Sean, I have been down by there a ton the last two month. I wouldn't worry to much about seeing a bunch of cows to shoot at! My son has a LE early tag and we are seeing plenty of elk in your area. Good luck and be patient, make sure you have a good vantage point and they will just run by opening morning. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, Utahfan1
