NM 6c

Has anybody harvested anything worth talking about in NM 6c? I have seen a a couple of big boys in my day in that area but few and far between.

I've killed two elk there but never deer hunted it. My next door nieghbor has killed 2 deer in 3 years there. Niether buck was big but he's not hunting for big bucks anyhow, and he and his hunting crew love 6C. They love the unit...

I hunted unit 6 about 20 years with muzzleloader, mostly 1980's and 90's, with about 60% success. Last year I hunted was 2001, so I have no recent info. It was generally a tough area, not very many deer, but some big ones. Seemed to be forkhorns, or really nice sized deer. I hunted old burn areas, but they eventually got past there prime and I ran out of places to hunt. Once the permits went to a drawing I went a few years without drawing so found other places to go, and spent more time elk hunting. But I enjoyed the area, lots of good memories, here's a picture of my best buck (1993, I still had hair!). Sorry the picture is a bit fuzzy, camera was hanging from a limb.

This buck came from what is now 6A. Also killed another nice one in 6C, and one more good one in 6A. Maybe someday I'll try it again. I saw two giant bucks while I was elk hunting one year, the two biggest deer I've ever seen, by far. But that was a long time ago.
