We drew out for muzzleloader deer 12. we have a guy that apparently knows he unit and i going to take us out, but I wanted to get any informationI could on top of his. I have been searching the pages on the unit and obviously not a very popular one for mule deer. Any body have any info on it. PM me or let me know otherwise if you would be so kind. I will lead with the regular "I'm not looking for anyones honey hole bla bla bla". I would appreciate any general information thanks.

No national forest land. BLM and state land mixed with private. It sounds like you might have to cover a lot of ground to find a good buck.

There are not a lot of deer in Unit 12, but there are some bruisers there. You will probably see some world class bull elk as well. I have a friend who shot a 188" buck in that unit last year. He did not have really deep forks, but has a butt-load of mass. There are bigger in that unit. It is a lot of juniper country and relatively flat with some really steep-sided mountians rising up. It borders Arizona's Unit 2 on the west. and NM unit 13 on the east. To the north is NM's unit 10 which used to be known for monsters. Unit 15 is to the south. So all these units used to regularly produce great deer, but are now known for big bull elk (except for AZ's unit 2). If you put your time and miles in, and add a little luck, you could potentially find a jammer. Good luck, and let us know how you do.

Thanks patxarano,

That is more or less what the gentleman taking us in to hunt has described. He says that it is very difficult to glass because of the terrain. I am not used to having so much private ground around. We are going to scout some of the public, and if it doesn't look good then I think we will start looking to pay a trespass fee or maybe make some calls and see what we can drum up. As we are hunting the muzzleloader, I don't believe we will have many hunters to compete with, so competition should be minimal even on the public.

Thanks again.
