I'm planning on hunting Nebraska with a muzzleloader for the first time this December. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to try. It looks to me that the Northwest corner of the state has a lot of public land and good number of Muleys. We want to hunt an area that has Muleys. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. Again I have never hunted in Nebraska so any and all info is appreciated. Muley7

LAST EDITED ON Jul-17-07 AT 07:11PM (MST)[p]I believe they range from the sandhills all the way west. I think it is based on the terrain. Sandhills and prarie = muleys / Wooded river bottoms = whitetails.

I am headed that way for the archery opener. I have seen most of the activity around alfala fields scattered around throughout the grasslands. In the national grasslands public and private ground are intermixed together.

I live in the sandhills of Ne. The muzzleloader season is great 1 month gives a guy a lot of time to find one you want. The Ne. site gives information on public land http:www.ngpc.state.ne.us. Don't be afraid to knock on doors an ask permission you will often get permission to large ranches with just a conversation. I wouldn't hunt tht Pine Ridge although I am for elk,(great year to finally draw) less than 3 inches of rain and the fires last year have really hurt the deer population IMO. P.M me and I may be able to help although I usually hunt private land. I saw more whitetails this weekend than muleys north of Harrison.
