Hello everyone! First post on MM. Been checking out the sight for three years of so. I am mainly a rifle hunter. Hunted New Mexico Gila for years. Moved to unit 31 desert part of New Mexico for five years. Last two years been going to unit 15 in Colorado. Will Be going to Colorado 3rd rifle in unit 70 this year. Yea Ha!! Really looking foward to that.

Question. Drew unit 38 in New Mexico on my second choice archery. Never been there. Don't know where to hunt. Can anyone lead me in the right direction. Don't want anyones honey hole just any basic infermation that could help.Going on the Jan. hunt. Thanks

Best time to shoot'ems when you see'um.
Sorry don't know didlly of which you speak, but I do want to say welcome, fellow voyeur.

Firts off ,let me say welcome. Monster Muleys has been my internet poison since around 98 or so, it's the best site for western big game hunting in my mind. Theres a bunch of really great people here and a few bozos' too and every now and again ya need to have thicker skin , but all in all a great internet site.

As for 38, well thats a pretty good unit. It's gone up and down in deer numbers the last few years but what unit hasn't eh.I also drew the archery hunt there , it's always my third choice , but love the unit . Anywhere you want to hunt has deer. Up in Red Cloud theres some great huntin, then down at the old LovLace Ranch which is state owned has some good deer too.Further south towards Ancho is real good , it's thicker but has real good deer numbers. This area I have found easier to hunt when theres a few guys to move the deer.I killed my first archery deer there and have since killed a few more with bow and muzzleloader. It's a fairly easy unit to learn and hunt and has pretty good deer, just a real fun area.So congrats and again WELCOME TO MM......NMHUNTNUTT

welcome aboard!

Welcome to the site. HuntNutt stated red cloud which is up in the forest above Corona. I spent a lot of time in the forest this year and deer numbers seem to be up. For a chance at a good trophy stick to the north end away from the roads. Deeper, Darker canyons is where the big bucks normally run from what I hear. Good luck and I will be hunting private land in 38 this year since I could not even draw the archery tag in unit 38.

Thanks again for the info. It is really appreciated! I sure like reserching a new hunt area. Deer should be rutting on the Jan. hunt. If I get to see some rutting action i will consider it a successful hunt. Had a cousin hunt on private land south of the forrest several years ago. He saw lots of deer there. There were a couple of good ones taken by another group of hunters.
