I just hunted the 2012 blackpowder season in North Park Colorado. I had a cow tag, but will be able to draw a bull tag next year. The 2013 season is 9/14-9/22. Because of work, I can only hunt a portion of the season, and am thinking a five day hunt would be about all I can do. To complicate matters, my sister is getting married next September, and I'm hoping she picks a weekend that hunting doesn't fall on (I will definitely try to persuade her).
If you could pick, would you hunt the first part of the season, or the second part? Early on, the elk may not be as jumpy as they haven't had the pressure, but they may be rutting harder later in the season. The season was early this year (started 9/8), and the elk seemed to respond well to calls early on.
Any advice, opinions, etc. are appreciated.
