Well, someone in our party hit the lottery and drew a 270 tag. We've spent a lot of time hunting Montana over the years, but never spent any time hunting deer near there. Any info you are willing to share would be much appreciated as this is probably a once in a lifetime deal.

Man I'm getting tired of my hunting season revolving around other peoples great tags!!!

A good place to start would be with John Vore, the FWP biologist for the area. The whole area has quality deer. Are you able to scout before the season? mtmuley

Hey Ipkus, Where are ya? If your buddy wants to take advantage of that tag, you guys need to start NOW. October is bearing down. It just may be a once in a lifetime. mtmuley

mtmuley, we're in eastern WA. about 7 hours away. I have the tag, but also getting married in 3 weeks. We'll probly make the trip a couple times before season, and would love to hook up with you. From what I understand there's a fare number of people in there, either elk hunting or doe hunting, so it seems patterning a buck could be tough. Considering elk hunting our normal spot on the opener and 270 when the rut begins. What your take on that. Thanks

Getting a pattern on a big muley buck is tough. If you can wait until the last two weeks of the season, the rut will be starting. I have talked with other guys that have hunted here in the Root like myself, and we believe the biggest bucks rut late. Getting married is important and congradulations. BUT, this is a 270 Montana muley tag. I'm only half laughing, but I have been married awhile. Send me a pm. I will be glad to help, and I know folks that will also. 7 hours isn't that far. mtmuley P.S. I don't know where you normally elk hunt, but 270 is a great elk spot too.
