Opening Day Montana Bull

I drew a pretty good tag here in the state of Montana. We went to a block management. Its private but antbody can hunt it if they just sign in and walk in. We finally got into these elk after other hunters were shooting at another group in this 2 and 1/2 section property. There were 5 other trucks at the sign-in box at first light : (

After running our butts off to catch the elk before they crossed the fence into the "other-guys" place we caught this bull 40 yards from freedom. He was standing broadside and I couldn't tell he was broke off untill after I shot him. Pretty sure that I still would have anyway. I can fix that.

It was an awesome weekend for sure. I got a good mule deer, too. It's over there in the muley forum. BTW, the ugly green, white and yellow hat is not for sale. I was in Lewistown, MT for work and saw it at a sporting good store. I bought it because it felt lucky and it reminded me of crazy Jerry Sloan always wearing those John Deere hats after Jazz games. I got it just weeks ago and it's gonna go hunting a lot from now on. Here are the pics.

Oh ya, my buddy knew that landowner and he let us drive to the elk. Otherwise we would still be there getting him out as we were almost 2 miles from the truck!!!!!

you know, I missed a bull during archery season that looked JUST LIKE that bull! Looking at the pics closely and forwarding them to my buddy that was with me from Montana, he agrees 100%!

Nice job...

Congrats on your bull! I shot one very similar to that last week in Wyoming. He was broke off as well, ant almost the very same section as your bull.

Thanks for missing. : ). I could tell that it happened a while ago. It was quite the break. I like to think of him as a UFC fighter bull!!!! I've killed an awesome Muley with my bow and the elk are in trouble next year come labor day. Not that area tho. Too far to drive. These bundle units put elk much closer to home for me. Good luck out there.
