hey guys i am a whitetail hunter from Oklahoma. I drew a muley rifle tag for the beulah unit in oregon 165a. can anyone tell me anything about this area is it good hunting, what is the terrain like.temperature in late sept. early oct. my buddies uncle has lots of private land for us to hunt there but he mainly farms and does not know much about hunting. any advice would be appreciated

Pretty good tag. Sucess the last couple of years has ranged from 45-65%. The country is high desert country. Lots of sage brush rolling hills in some parts of the units and in other parts of the unit it has high desert timber. As for temperature it can get pretty hot in the middle of the day and then drop off to below freezing at night. It mostly depends on the year. Sometimes you can get an inch of snow, and other years it is hot all season long. Good luck and hope you bag a big one.

I hunted that unit in 1995 for elk. I saw some good bucks in the 180 plus range. Just about every good buck I saw was in the deepest darkest timber you could find. I still hunted it and really enjoyed the country. Picked up a ton of sheds. Get in shape. It can be steep. We did drives a couple of times and saw lots of animals. Good Luck

The unit goes from Timber in the northwest to high desert in the south to flat private agricultural in the east. Anything east of harper is flat, so look at the map to find the private property you are hunting.

If you have access to private land use it, that unit has a lot of private so the public lands will be covered pretty well, though not as bad as many units. bring your shotguns, the second weekend of deer season is opener for chuckar. deer numbers are down but the chuckar hunting in that area should be great this year.

hey guys i appreciate all the information, and manny i didn't have any points, i ended up talking to a guy that lives in that area sat. and he said he didn't draw either i don't know if its easier to draw non-resident. The landowner told us 165a was a sure draw but i am just going off what he told us. 165 looks tougher to draw into. i am not sure the difference i know 165a is southeast Beulah unit so i don't know if it will even run up to where the timber is.That is just the unit the landowner told us to draw.
