I'm heading down to the Henrys this weekend for the first scouting trip for my muzzleloader hunt. Any ideas or help you guys have would be great.

1 take a good spare tire
2 take extra gas cans
3 take a camera
4 just have fun there is deer everywwhere down there the first scouting trip is the funnest you will see many deer but see if you can pull yourself from all the deer on the roads and get into the harder to get to places the mountain to the north and the mountains to the south dont have as many roads and are much thicker with ceders and pines,so that makes it that much more harder to scout but I feel that you could find a toad in those areas but you could find a toad standing in the roads who know.... CONGRADS on one of the BEST MULEDEER tags in the west. Dont shoot the small ones there for me in the future LOL ;)

I don't have any info, but my dad has a buffalo tag and we will be making a scouting trip down there in a couple of weeks. Keep your eyes pealed for buffalo while you are scouting and I will give you info on deer in return.

I watched a DVD of a mule deer hunt on the Henrys several years ago (back when a dedicated hunter could hunt all three seasons). It seems like the video was called Burly Bucks.

I've been there once on a buffalo hunt and some of the terrain from the video looked familiar. For the archery and muzzleloader and hunts they were at and just above tree line on the north and west sides of Mt. Ellen (I believe). They were spotting the deer from below at first light then waiting for the thermals to change and getting above and making their stalk on the bedded bucks. The guy missed a 200+ buck with his bow.

When hunting buffalo in November we saw some nice bucks still hanging out at 9500-10000 feet.

Have a great time - this is probably the mule deer tag of a lifetime.

Torch, i know the Henry's like it's my own back yard, hunted deer there since the 80's.
I have guided sportsman tag holders for buffalo down there and can give you an excellent tip if your interested.
Send me a PM if you are and i'd be glad to help you out.
