Heres a Vernon unit buck from over the weekend. Wondering what everyone in mm land would estimate the gross score at.
Thanks, spj

wow! that is a killer buck, doubble droppers. id say 210-215. good mass, 24 inches of extras, long beams. he has it all i hope you get a chance at him.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-07 AT 01:25PM (MST)[p]Awesome looking buck......with only a 3-point mainframe, I'd guess he'll gross (non-typical) in the 180's.

BOHNTR )))---------->

He is cool looking with those matching extra backs and drops. I'll give him 140 three point main frame, plus 50 inches of extras for about 190 gross

Who freakin' cares what he'd score! He's got double droppers! That has to be one of the rarest things you can find in a buck's rack. I'm assuming you've got a tag, if so, good luck to you. Scott

After looking closer at the photos, I'm gonna have to say those long "extra backs" are really his G-4's. Sorry! How about a huge 150 3 pt. main frame with 25 inches of junk for 180 gross. BOHNTR is right on the money!

Thats a hell of Muley,Im gonna guess 218 Gross!!

It looks like the Vernon Unit is officially back.

All the efforts of Dawn Peay and Tony Abbot are finally paying off and we are reaping the benefits in certain units in Utahs mule deer herd!

There are more big bucks on the Vernon this year than I have seen in several years. I wish I had a tag this year. Good luck to all the lucky SOB's who have a Vernon tag this fall.

I don't know about the Vernon being back? It has a long ways to go in my opinion.

Nice pictures Johnson. I do not know about score, but definitely a double-dropper keeper.

He's definately a character buck. I'm thinking he should gross right around 190. If you are looking for a 200 incher, he ain't got enough junk. He'd be a tuff one to let go, wouldn't he?

...Thats some funny shat little case. I have to agree with ktc on this one, its got along way to go.

I'm coming up with 211 gross, but what do i know? Nice buck who really gives a ##### about score when they looks like that

Anyone that is coming up with 180 or less better look closer that buck will hit in the 200 gross area for sure and will scare the hell out of 215 but like all said dam those double droppers are the BOMB!!!! WOW I hope you have a tag or you know someone that has one I would love to find out what he scores if you can get some more photos posted would love to see them congrads of a GREAT find

Maybe I'm missing something....wouldn't be the first time for sure. :) I've measured quite a few bucks over the years and from the photos posted, the most abnormal inches I can come up with is 28" (generous)..... Since he's only got a 3-point mainframe with a short right mainbeam, I doubt he'll measure 170" as a 3-point, which is the only way he'll get close to 200". I still think he's a heck of a buck that I would take in a heartbeat. But I put his mainframe as maybe 160"....add the abnormal points....mid to upper 180's. But heck, I've been fooled many times on these photo scores. :)

BOHNTR )))---------->

I have added up the main frame in my head several times and I also get right around 160-165 then add between 25-30" for extras and I get 185-195." I don't think he will get 200" but I could be wrong. His mass is a tough one. Velvet bucks are tough to jugde on mass. I think he will get between 34-38 inches but I guess it could be a little heavier than that but I don't think so. Even a few extra inches here and there doesn't hit the 200" mark in my book. Just my opinion.

As a side note that is an awesome buck. I just love bucks with character. I was at a SLC archery banquet and a guy paid $3800 for an archery tag for in Vernon during the auction. I thought he was crazy but maybe it is a better unit than I thought.
PRETTY BUCK--I hope somebody gets him!

It's nice to see there's still some great bucks out there! My buddies dad has a Vernon rifle tag this year, but he's on oxygen and can't get around too well. Hope he can find a decent one somewhat close to a road.

I get 200, but I think I may be a bit high. Probably somewhere in the 190's. A buck of a lifetime, and I wouldn't hesitate a second if he stepped out....

My uneducated guess on the buck would also be right close to 200" gross. I have a feeling we'll find out for sure by the end of October. I hope the buck slips through the cracks but my guess is he'll get nailed by some lucky hunter.

What a STUD! If he is able to make it through the hunts/winter it would sure be neat to see what he might look like next year!

Any of you hemorrhoids that wouldn't shoot that deer cause he didn't score enough, should get a swift kick to the nut-sack.

As far as what that buck scores it sounds like everyone has their opinion, my guess would be in the low 190's. I happen to have a Vernon tag myself. I haven't seen that buck, but I have spotted a couple shooters with one that looks to be a 180 typical 4pt. I haven't been too impressed with what I have seen, but that buck there would be dropped first light opening morning.

Man where was that buck 2 years ago when I had the tag???? Great buck though. Last year I know of a double drop buck that was killed out there with about the same size main frame... Maybe Bro.s or a son? Who know's. All in All nice buck and thanks for the pics.

Mike111, I came up with very similar numbers to you EXCEPT you gave that buck a 27 inch width. It can't be more than 24(longest main beam). Also I gave it 34 inches of mass puts it at 192. PHENOMENAL buck though, wouldn't give it a second thought as to the score when I pulled the trigger!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I think I wanted to see myself talk I am starting to come around. I was Thinking there was a G3 on his right side but that is the G4 but I will agree with everyone that I would not even think about it I would drop him.. And be STOKED about it in every way!!!!!!!!

It is too bad that he cant make it another year or two he could become something incredible

Let me start by saying this is an awesome buck. He is a shooter anywhere and anytime. I just don't think he scores as well as some of you guys think. But who really cares!

His typical frame is pretty even, so let's say no deductions

main beams 24 x2
G-1's 2 x2
G-2's 14 x2
G-3's 0 x2
G-4's 14 x2

Mass 15 x2
Inside Spread 24

Typical Score 162 More than I originally guessed!
Junk 25

Total 187 Also more than I originally guessed!

Anyway, He is a smoker somebody put that Vernon tag on him!

I got 207 4/8s give or take 1/8 it is a sweet buck those points are longer than they appear i would put money on that!!! sweet buck that i bet sheds its horns in october and then digs a hole and puts them in it!!!!
YOU AINT GOING TO KILL A BIG BUCK UNLESS THERE IS A BIG BUCK WHERE YOUR HUNTING!!!

I think this buck will be shy of 200 but far from 180. After Seeing it on the hoof a few times the pics simply dont do it justice. The buck he runs with will scare the hell out of the mid 190's also i'll get a pic posted sometime. Thanks for the scores. We'll try to get a wac'em broadhead in him shortly.

I was the one who had the second highest bid for the archery conservation tag. I tried to get the 'buyer' to bid one more time. Oh well, this unit is coming back, and the money generated from this tag funded a project a few weks ago where excess PJ was removed, allowing for more feed for the deer and other critters on the Vernon unit.

You are a little low on the amount paid though, and I hope the guy who bought the tag gets his money's worth.

Smokepole,

Good luck and I hope that you can drive a Wac Em in that Hass of a Muley on the upcoming archery season.

I know that you spend many countless hours parking your ass behind that high-end Leica spotter and you deserve such a buck.

Good luck and give it hell!

Thanks little case, One things for certain there will be more high end German glass than a henieken truck looking for that buck on the arch. This here is my go home happy buck, hes got a front end of mammoth proportions, He should be a decent representive of the species. Like K. Darner would say "you cant eat'em horns"

Hard to tell from the angle but another 190-195 class buck for sure. I bet all your buddies love to go hunting with you.

If those two were standing together I would shoot the double dropper and I would never allow anyone with a tape near him.

That second buck is a brute and is definitely an excellent representative of the species. I'm going to say that buck will gross in at around 195-205 inches B&C. A hell of a buck for a second option!

He's a dink. Look for something better.

I'm coming up with about 190" gross. His 3 point frame obviously isn't helping his score, but who cares? He's one of the neatest looking bucks I've seen. DROP THE HAMMER on that dude if you get a chance!

Awesome buck!

First buck is over 190 and less than 200 gross inches. Just take the drop tines and turn them into g3?s and add the rest of the extras to the right main beam and you are looking at a buck that will gross real close to 195

The second buck doesn't have the same mass and is a little narrower with a touch longer points He is also a mid 190? buck. This buck would net higher in the books.

I say nets are for fish those are both bucks of two lifetimes and I would shoot which ever presented the best shot.

Great deer and good photos. I'll bet a few snickers bars that this buck is on public ground and NOT a vernon buck. Props to you for throwin' the dogs off the trail. The photo gives away a little too much info for vernon. Hope you kill him wherever he roams.
