Im going to go scouting this weekend for my hunt next week. Thinking about Joes valley resevoir, Ephraim canyons, Ferron resevoir... Anybody been down there lately with any info?

Heard of some bulls being seen around joes valley this week. Also lots of elk further north.

I haven't checked the weather, but we have done this hunt 3 times. The weather dictates this one, we scouted the tops and higher ground the first time, then snow set in before the hunt. My point is, scout some lower level ground, you may be hunting it if weather sets in. Also, that time of year the elk are in transition, where they were last week, they aren't now, the cows are on there was to winter ground, and the bulls are bacheloring up. I LOVE THIS HUNT!! But you might find your hunting areas you didn't count on.

When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!

Last weekend there were lots of elk in the upper Joes Valley, but my experience is that area will be 99% cows and small bulls.
Hoss is right in that the weather is a big factor and you will be hunting little unusual holes where the big bulls bachelor up.
I wouldn't look to much at the cow groups, but rather find some hidie-holes where the bulls are licking their wounds.

Good luck

+1 I was up there on the general rifle deer hunt and we saw tons of bulls. Lots of little ones and raghorns up with the cows. Saw several bachelor groups with the best bull being a 320ish 6x6. Then during the snow storm we found a 330-340ish bull all by himself. Probably wouldn't have found him without the snow. Chances are you will probably have to ignore the big groups of elk and find that loner....

I was down there over the weekend and bulls were in the same places during the rut. I hope that storm hits good because they were in thick cover.

I have the same tag! Best of luck to you and maybe we will see ya on the Mountain!!!
